Changing Default Search Result Preferences from Home Search

Hi, I am somewhat new to Logos. I got the Biblical Languages package last spring. I have one basic question: Is there a way to change my default preferences in search results from the home search box?

One of the main reasons that I ask is that when I type in a New Testament text, I get the Greek to come up with it but I don't understand why the Hebrew is not set up to show up for an OT search. I have found that you can change your layout from the top right corner and save your preferences there, but I was wondering if you can adjust the default layout for the home search. Hi Matthew, and welcome!

You can't change the default layout, but you can change the default Bibles and commentary. By default, Logos will display your five favourite Bibles. I presume you have chosen your Greek NT as one of your five favourite Bibles (using Prioritisation).

If that's the case, then can I presume that the Greek Bible also shows up when you're in the OT? If that's the case, then the best thing to do is to set your Greek NT and Hebrew Bible to be in the same custom series. You do that from the library - make sure that the library information panel is showing, then select your NT and click on "Set Series" in the information panel. You can call the series whatever you like, so long as you give exactly the same name to your Hebrew Bible.

Once you've done that, make sure that your prioritisation has the new series name in it, rather than just the Greek NT. If it just says the Greek NT, remove it, then add it back. Logos should recognise that the book is now in a series, and add the whole series automatically.

Mark, thank you so much for this. I had no idea we could do that.

I've selected a Greek interlinear, LXX interlinear, and Hebrew interlinear, and gave the same series name to the 3 of them. I can now search this series to do things like:

type an English word, and have it show in all three.
type a Greek word to find where it's used in NA27 or LXX.

I wouldn't recommend that. Series are designed not to overlap. They're designed so that you can seamlessly move from one book in a series to the other, when you change reference. For example, if you were in the Hebrew Bible, then moved to Matthew's gospel, Logos wouldn't normally know what to do. But if you had a Greek NT in the same series as your Hebrew Bible, Logos would seamlessly switch to Matthew in the Greek NT.

If the books in your series overlap, that's usually a sign you should be using collections instead. Collections will allow you to do both the searches you've described.

(In your case, Logos wouldn't know whether to go to the LXX or Hebrew Bible if you moved to the OT. There's a more detailed description of the problem here.)

Redefined Gk & Heb as series, and used collection for overlapping resources.

What you can do is two series, e g UBS+LXX and NA+BHS (or NA27 in one and NA28 in the other; or with apparatus in one, and without in the other). In fact, if you want to, you can probably pair up all the OL OT's you regularly use with a suitable NT, so that you can follow rabbit trails more easily.
