Library Searching

After looking at the tutorial video I tried searching/filtering the Library using "type: bible" and setting up some tags. That worked ok.

I noticed that the Subjects field already contained words I would use for tags. So I tried filtering the library display with something like "Subjects:Bibles,English" but it didn't work. I also tried filtering by my tags and that didn't work. I couldn't find anything in the help information on the syntax for the Library search field.

Are the key words  "Subject" or "Subjects", "Tag" or "Tags"?

What is the syntax for including more than one subject or tag word?

Can anyone give me an example of a multiword filter/search for the Library?

The words are in the column titles of your Library browser.  You can also right click if you forgot them.

For English Bibles use:-

type:bible lang:English

The search syntax that also applies here can be found at http://wiki.logos.com/Search_HELP Try something like:-

type:dictionary subject:Bible ANDNOT (title:(semantic, lexicon, topic), subject:(greek, latin))

where space = AND, comma = OR

Note that you can use part of the info in "Subject" or "Title", etc.

I think that much of what you are asking has been talked about in various places in the forum.  I have seen most of it in connection with collections. 

Near the bottom of this Wiki page http://wiki.logos.com/Collections there is a listing of the filterable fields and examples of various rules.  These should work in the Library search.

The Library Tutorial videos and Dynamic Collection videos on the logos site http://www.logos.com/videos or the user videos, such as Mark Barnes collections videos, from http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4_Video_Tutorials may also give you some indication of how the filtering works. (I re-read your post and see you did look at some of the tutorial videos, but there may be others that help you)

Filtering is to some extent dependent on the metadata, which is improving, but still less than perfect (see http://wiki.logos.com/Metadata_correction_proposals)

OK. I tagged a couple of dozen resources as "Bible". The tag shows up in the view and the resources can be grouped by that tag when I click on the Tag heading.

However if I type "mytag: Bible" in the search box there are zero hits. Nothing visible at all.  If I type "Subject: Bible" I get 16 hits, which is clearly not all the ones showing up with Bible in the subject field when the search box is empty, and at least two of the hits have a blank field for Subjects so they should not have been included.

My conclusion is that this feature does not work in a useful way unless I've done something wrong. Just to be sure I hadn't got the program in some weird state, I restarted it, but the result was the same.

I just tried it without a space after the colon and had it work ... as did mytag:NAP canon

There should be no space after the colon. I've added this clarification to the Collections page on the wiki.

I'm trying to validate that my collection of "type:Journal" is catching all my Journals

...the way I was trying to validate that was to filter the Library to "NOT(type:Journal)"  [I also tried other permutations, ANDNOTs, etc)...but I get 0 results.  From reading the Wiki on collections, it seems like operators like this should work in the Library.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

ANDNOT type:journal will definitely work, but ANDNOT requires something to the left of it, so you've got to construct a filter that will show your entire library and then place ANDNOT type:journal to the right of that. Here's one I came up with that works, since every book in your library should have at least one vowel somewhere in its title or author or description or somewhere:

(a OR e OR i OR o OR u) ANDNOT type:journal

use this:

rating:>=0 ANDNOT type:journal

or this:

rating:>=0 -type:journal
