Learning Biblical Greek/Hebrew with Logos Bible Software

Hey, I'm a seminary student enjoying my first semester of Biblical Greek. Hebrew will happen in 2014.

To what extent will the software/videos... "Learn to use Biblical Greek and Hebrew with Logos Bible Software" help supplement what I'm learning in class? Will it conflict and confuse things or will it be helpful?

Also, can I just watch the videos online, or do I wait for the DVD's to arrive? And last, I have Logos 5, but it appears the lessons use Logos 4. I never owned this version. Re-applicable?

as soon as you buy it, the download links will appear in your account's email .. so you can either watch them after you download them or you can wait for the DVDs to arrive. I use K-Lite codec pack to play those movie files. (the videos aren't hosted online like Youtube, you gotta download them first into your computer)

The instruction sucks, because it was taught with Logos 4.. So some features have been removed from Logos 5 & lessons couldn't be "repeated".

I say wait till they come out with the new version for Logos 5, then you buy it.

I wouldn't recommend buying it. It is a hassle.

For the price with academic discount those videos are a steal! I found them very helpful and got great grades in both greek and hebrew. You can't follow instructions for visual filters exactly because it changed a bit in logos 5 but there are posts explaining the difference. Also the visual filters are not the be all and end all of the videos the point is what you learn about the languages. I totally recommend them! What you learn about the software is a bonus ΙMHO...

I own the DVD set.

I would suggest waiting for the L5 edition to be released. Once you learn what the cases and tenses/aspects mean in your language classes then the DVDs will help you use the morphological tagging that is in Logos. The Word Study features (using the BWS ring) is worth the cost of the DVDs. Since the morphological tagging switched between L4 to L5 from Anderson Forbes to Lexham Hebrew, it is worth waiting for the new DVDs.

When I first learned Greek, I found a tool called an analytical lexicon that parsed every Greek word for me. By finding that tool too soon, I never learned the case endings adequately. Learning how the paradigms are formed is IMPORTANT to your overall acquisition of the language and finding a shortcut too soon can give you a limp for life.

I ABSOLUTELY recommend getting the DVDs while you are on Academic pricing, but do it AFTER the revision and AFTER you learn the basic language skills.
