"downloading resources.... (null)"

I've loaded up the software and set up my account online, but when I tried to download it says it is downloading resources and then after a few seconds says "downloading resources.... (null)" and then it stops!!
What do I do now?

This is a known issue. We've added some additional debugging to the logs that will come in the next alpha that will help us track this down. The likely culprit is a corrupted resource file.

There are a few folks that are affected by this issue, so when we ship the next alpha, we'll post instructions with the release notes.

Thanks Cameron - so do I just keep logging on and when it goes past this ".... null" message and starts to download I know that it has been fixed? Or is there something else I need to do?

Any ETA for this repair? We just upgraded to this version for our Mac, and we get the "downloading resources... (null)". Which is about 3 weeks post this last post.
Thanks,
Jonathan

Out of curiosity, is this problem due to the hard drive being case-sensitive & journaled (or maybe just Case-sensitive? We had that come up as an issue with Rosetta Stone on our family computer, as well as an issue with some other learning oriented software on our Macs. In fact, I'll try downloading it there now to see, and will report back.

No one has contacted me yet, Jonathan. If I get an answer outside the forum I will post it, and if you do so I would appreciate a posting as well.

Other users have had issues with case-sensitive file systems. In fact I don't know of anyone who has been successful running L4 on such an FS.
Unfortunately, case-sensitive file system installs are not configuration that we're supporting at the current time. "Keep Smiling for Jesus
" has reported other issues with case-sensitive file systems as well: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/9132.aspx
That said, as we get closer to feature complete, we will try to revisit this configuration as time permits.

Could you guys post your logs one more time so that I could see what resources we're crashing on?

Sure, here you go Tom. Also, with 10A released, I've started that up this morning, and it is downloading what appears to be 1 more GB of data from the original 6GB. Will keep you posted this morning on what happens.
As for the NON-Case Sensitive Mac that we have - no go. Same issue.

I, too, just downloaded Logos 4 for Mac for the first time yesterday. I am a brand new Logos user and therefore have no previous resources. I downloaded Scholar's edition, yet saw no resources. But I am also getting this download (null) business. 8156.Archive.zip">http://community.logos.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer.Discussions.Components.Files/75/8156.Archive.zip:550:0]

Luke,
Are you per-chance using a "case-sensitive" volume?

Your Indexer.log would be the more helpful. The Logos4.log doesn't appear to have any crash specific information.

Tom,
Thanks for replying. Sorry about my ignorance, but I don't know what a "case-sensitive" volume is. Could you help me out with that? Also, was the indexer.log not included in the archive file? I thought I included it.
Thanks

Okay,
I just downloaded A11 but the same problem happened, "downloading resources (null)". Tom asked me if my volume was case-sensitive and I am unsure what that means. But here is a new archive file post A11.

When a disk partition is formatted, Apple's Disk Utility provides several file system options. Get Info for a disk partition shows file system format (e.g. "Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)" vis "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)").

KS4J,
I appreciate the clarification. But should I move forward and change something about my system? Or is a case-sensitive system something I just have to live with in Snow leopard?
Thanks
0 -
Changing system configuration is a personal choice - some options are mentioned in post thread:
http://community.logos.com/forums/p/9728/77526.aspx
Apple Disk Utility can split and/or resize partitions along with copying from one partition to another. Another possibility is using an external hard drive for Time Machine backups - verify files exist in Time Machine - boot up installation DVD - reformat internal hard drive - install Mac OS X with restoration of stuff from Time Machine backup.
Logos 4 for Mac currently crashes on case-sensitive systems. However, many library resources can be read in Logos for Mac 1.2.2 (free).
Another option is using a Windows emulator to run Logos 3 or 4 (e.g. VMWare Fusion, Parallels, VirtualBox, ...).
Since previous Logos library upgrade included license file (email attachment), personally used Libronix support option to do a new install of Logos 3 in Windows XP Pro virtual machine, then copied resources for Logos for Mac 1.2.2:

Logos team, let's be clear about something. The issue is occurring on BOTH case-sensitive and non-case-sensitive drives. I have tried it on both types of macs (snow leopard). Alpha 11 is NOT loading properly, and the null report is duplicated on both.
As for un-casensitizing a drive, the previous poster nailed it on the head. Do a Time Machine back-up, and then re-format with snow leopard. The during the re-install, chose the restore from back-up. Works quite easy, and that's how we got around this issue with Rosetta Stone, which is also an unfriendly program with case-sensitive drives.

While crashing A9 many times, "downloading resources...(null)" appeared on screen along with Logos 4 icon in menu bar, IndexWorker was busy in background identifying resources then indexing - "Preparing Library" may or may not appear on screen, sometimes home page (A9 bit quirky). Logos4.log and Indexer.log files can be opened while Logos4 is running; Apple's Console utility displays contents - if scroll indicator at bottom (right side of screen), console scrolls log file when updated.
When IndexWorker completes, Logos4 icon in menu bar disappears. Several posts discuss Indexer initially taking long time (hours) to build indexes on local hard drive for fast searching of library resources.
By the way, Apple's Activity Monitor shows CPU and memory usage.

Jonathan,
A couple of the team members and I have looked into this but haven't been able to reproduce it. I'll put it on the top of my list for next week. We've got a couple of stack traces to go on.
Just so I understand your configuration, you had the previous version of LDLS 1.2 for Mac installed and you downloaded A9 and started it up and got the failure, correct? You've since updated to A11 which gives you the same error.
Mobile Development Team Lead

Yes, Tom, you're nearly spot on. I have 2 Mac's. One is MBP, Case Sensitive & Journaled (July 2009). That one does have an operational version of LDLS 1.2.2 working on it. Original attempt for install with Logos 4 was A10. Null issue occurred. Then the discs arrived, and we tried A09. Same thing. Then we tried A11, same thing. The other Mac is an iMac - July 2008. It is NOT case Sensitive, but it is journaled. BOTH computers are running Snow Leopard. On the iMac, however, we DO NOT have LDLS on it.
The Null failure has occurred on every attempt. There are no resources in either install.
I hope this helps. Let me know what else you might want or want to know about.

I am not a computer whiz by any means and I am not sure if I had the same problem that you all are facing but when I first installed Logos 4 on my MacBook everything was downloading as it was supposed to but I had to pause the downloading briefly and when I did so it froze up. Upon restarting my computer and trying to continue downloading I got the same "Downloading Resources...Null" message on the loading bar which you have described. However, after deleting all files in my library with "logos" in the filename and running a clean install from online it worked as it was supposed to and my library downloaded without any problems.
One thing that I noticed though, was that for some reason whenever I searched for files with "logos" in the name on spotlight and selected the 'on this mac' option, there were several files in the folders of my library files that didn't show up. So, I had to search in all of the files within my library (caches, preferences, etc.) one at a time to weed them all out. Make sure though that if you are running Libronix DLS that you are careful not to delete some of those files with the logos 4 files (I almost did :P). Like I said before, I am no expert and am not sure if this will work for you but it did for me, hope it helps!
God Bless
Ethan

Would you be willing to do the following to help me track down the error?
1) Remove the past traces of Logos4.
- Remove ~/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data, Documents, Shared, and Users folders. (Leave Logging so that we don't loose our logging configuration).
- From Logging, remove all the files except nlog.config. Make sure nlog.config looks like the following:
<nlog xmlns="<a target="_blank" href="http://www.nlog-project.org/schemas/NLog.xsd">http://www.nlog-project.org/schemas/NLog.xsd</a>" xmlns:xsi="<a target="_blank" href="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance</a>" ><br /> <targets><br /> <target name="console" xsi:type="Console" error="true" layout="${date} | ${level:uppercase=true:padding=5} | ${threadid} | ${logger:padding=15} | ${message} "/><br /> </targets><br /> <rules><br /> <logger name="GrammarPathLogger" minlevel="Warn" writeTo="console" final="true" /><br /> <logger name="StandardDataType" minlevel="Warn" writeTo="console" final="true" /><br /> <logger name="DataTypeManager" minlevel="Warn" writeTo="console" final="true" /><br /> <logger name="ResourceDisplay" minlevel="Warn" writeTo="console" final="true" /><br /> <logger name="*" minlevel="Debug" writeTo="console"/><br /> </rules><br /> </nlog>
- From ~/Library/Preferences/ remove com.logos.*.plist
2) Re-run Logos 4
3) Send me the logs when it crashes.
If you can do this for both systems, that would be helpful. On your system with LDLS 1.2.2, can you also include the com.libronix.LibronixDLS.plist from ~/Library/Preferences as well?
Thanks,
Tom

For grins, tried something bit different - restarted iMac - choose case insensitive Mac OS X 10.5.8 - upgraded Logos 4 to A11 - allowed to run until all background processes complete. While waiting for indexing to complete, able to read some books in library - after indexing done, did a word search with fast results
Restarted iMac again - choose case sensitive Mac OS X 10.6.2 boot - deleted all folders within /Users/briggsr/Library/Application Support/Logos4 - copied Logging folder with nlog.config - modified contents as posted - copied other A11 folders from Mac OS X 10.5.8 - launched A11 - prompted for logos account and password - quickly crashed - noticed logos4.log file bit less verbose - modified nlog.config to show debug messages for everything - launched A11 again - promptly crashed - SnowLeopard files attached:

More grins - restarted iMac - back to Mac OS X 10.6.2 case sensitive - kept verbose nlog.config file - deleted all folders within /Users/briggsr/Library/Application Support/Logos4 - copied folders used for A9 crash testing. Launched A11 with verbose debugging - after some time, "Downloading resources… (null)" replaced by "Preparing Library" and followed by two crashes: 1st crash 3 lines after BibleIndex starting additional library indexing thread with 2nd crash similar to previous post, occurring after "Registering data type" (possibly same Error issue with ResourceRichTextUtility not loading color_green.jpg) - attached files prefixed with Dual:
