I am not able to remember what took place when the sofeware crashed. I attempted to open it and it just would not operate.

have you tried loading to a blank layout? Press and hold the control key (command key on Mac) immediately upon startup to check the appropriate box. If that doesn't work, please enable and post logs. If you are on Mac, follow the link in my signature line for instructions.
