Do you have Logos running on a desktop PC that is always on? You could try using Splashtop or if the desktop PC has a Pro version of Windows you could use Remote Desktop. I did this with my Surface RT before I was careless and broke it. I am replacing it with a Surface 2 soon and will set this up again.

Nicholas, what specific problem are you having with Logos on your Surface?
Mark, I'm not sure if your question about having a desktop was directed at me or Nicholas.
If to me, then yes, I have a desktop, but not because of Logos. I don't see Logos running in Splashtop or Remote Desktop as an ideal solution, because aside from connectivity questions (would there be a reliable wifi/data connection away from the desktop computer), the interface for control is sub-par to running Logos directly on a Surface or in the Android/iOS app.
But personally, my long-term goal would be to have one device that I could use in tablet mode with a Metro style Logos app for reading/basic study, then attach the keyboard for typing up sermon or class notes in conjunction with Logos 5.
As it stands right now, in my opinion you need two devices to use Logos most conveniently and efficiently: 1) a desktop or laptop type device with a keyboard running a full desktop OS (OS X or Windows 7/8, etc) to use Logos 5 in 'full power' mode, plus 2) a smartphone/tablet running iOS or Android for reading mode using the app.
In contrast, there are hybrids like the Surface, Asus T100, Lenovo Miix, Dell Venue, etc that support both app mode and full desktop mode in a single device that can 'do it all' if the software were available.
A single device would not work perfectly, but would be an acceptable compromise for a decent segment of people (students, pastors studying away from the office, missionaries out traveling to give reports, etc). It would also be one step closer to a single device that can do everything acceptably: at your desk it's connected to a monitor for better viewing, on the go it is very portable, at night you use it as a tablet for reading etc. This would simplify charging and possibly reduce costs (buying one "Surface 3.0" instead of [desktop + ] tablet + laptop). I realize this kind of vision is broader than just Logos, but a single device computing solution is an real goal for some people.

I have the surface 2 and it really sucks that I can't fully operate my Logos 5... very depressing especially since I need app for school... any updates pending now?
Sorry you are having trouble.
I honestly doubt the Surface 2 will ever run full Logos because the Surface 2 is Windows RT. At best the Windows RT app will be an ebook reader, and it is unlikely to be brought to parity with the ios and Android apps, which are also mostly ebook readers. Still, it can be nice to have access to your Logos books on the tablet.

This is exactly how I have used my Surface Pro for the last year.
I would love to be enlightened then as to how you have a really useful reading mode in Logos (app or Logos 5) on Windows 8 without the keyboard attached. Because I've tried a variety of things and have had no good solutions become apparent.

That is exactly what I do on my Surface Pro 2 also, and it works great. It has replaced my desktop, tablet, and laptop completely. I have a monitor at my desk that I can connect to the Surface Pro 2, but, honestly, I do that very seldom now days. I find it more comfortable to just stretch or pinch the Surface Pro 2 screen if adjustment is needed, and when I use the monitor I catch myself reaching up and touching the monitor screen (and it is not touch screen). This is exactly how I have used my Surface Pro for the last year.
And using the Surface Pro 2 as a tablet to read Logos books is a pleasure in Logos 5. When reading extensively in a book, I simply float the resource window to full screen and use my finger to scroll. What could be simpler? Or I have put the resource in "Logos reading mode" and used my finger to swipe and turn pages. Either way works great.

I have a saved layout that I call "Portrait - Touch" It has the highlighting panel on the left the top panel has the resource I am reading and the bottom panel has 3 tabs of favorite Bibles (with Interlinear pane displayed for quick lookup). I flip the keyboard behind and use the stylus for highlighting.

I don't go through all your steps because I don't use reading view. I read in the simple 3 panel view I described above.

This has become an issue again for many of the resources. Can the app be updated to view the new and updated resources?
