Base Package Discounts last push before L6?

I was just thinking, and I have no idea if L6 has even made it far into development, that maybe this big push for people to upgrade to L5 base packages might be some indication that L6 is not too far off. It could be getting that last bit of dollars out of L5 before L6 is released.

I hope L6 doesn't come out soon! I don't want to see it until at least late 2015.

I don't know if I know anything or not...but L4 and L5 were both released in November. I have to say I would be rather surprised if L5 was only intended to last for one year. I think something is on tap...not exactly sure what, but something a bit bigger than little. I would be surprised if it was L6 though.

I think Logos needs to let people pay off their upgrades before coming out with another one--we have to be able to afford it before we can get it.

They changed the base packages about once a year or so before. Perhaps they are preparing for that now as well?

I wish they had made the decision to end the upgrade after Windows 8.1 came out.

I am on Windows XP and I am told that Logos 5 can't be used on XP. I looked at Windows 8 and said no way. So I'm stuck I can't upgrade to Logos 5 at this time.

However I'm told Windows 8.1 will clean up most of my objections to Windows 8.

I can then make the decision to either go to Windows 8.1 or Apple which is becoming more likely.

But in any case I would be passed the upgrade discount on Logos 5 so I either will wait until Logos 6 or forget it and concentrate on Wordsearch.

I think Logos making the decision to end the upgrade discount 3 weeks before Windows 8.1 is due to come out is poor planning on their part.

They surely have to know that Windows 8 was very poorly received and caused many people to stop all upgrades until they could see what the next shoe Microsoft was going to drop. I haven't upgraded a thing and won't until I see what Microsoft's next move is.

I sure don't want to invest any money into a Windows program then be driven to Mac by Microsoft's antics.

Some thoughts:

Logos is cross platform. You already own the Mac version. [;)]
Windows XP has been really old for a really long time. Any of the newer versions of windows will work with L5
You can still purchase an L5 base package, and use many of the resources in L4. The rest will be waiting for you when you do update
The L5 engine is free... You can use it when you update your OS without any cost. You will have access to the resources and tools that you currently enjoy, along with many new features. You would only need to purchase a minimal crossgrade or base package if you want new resources and the new data sets (required to make some of the new features work)

Everybody seems to assume that a new version would mean a new sales push (perhaps not without cause based on experience). I do wonder whether a major upgrade could also take place as a means to solve problems that have been worked on for a while. For instance, the note system and the engine woes. You never know, we might get the equivalent to Microsoft's free Windows 8.1 release: an important release with major improvements designed to improve satisfaction and usability. This also is profitable even if it is offered free.

What??? Can't we be allowed to dream once in a while?

Logos 5 uses .NET Framework 4.5 that Microsoft chose to not support on Windows XP so a newer version of Windows is needed: Vista, 7, or 8.

If you buy a Logos 5 upgrade, you can still use all the new resources on Logos 4, until you get a computer that can run Logos 5. (You can't use the new datasets, such as Timeline and Clause Search; these still require Logos 5.)

I wouldn't count on it; Windows 8.1 isn't really a significant change from Windows 8. Either one is going to be a major change from XP.

You still have a choice of Windows 7. I think it is an excellent operating system and it runs all of Logos 5's features. As others have said, you can run Logos 5 on a PC or Mac. You own a license to run on both if you so choose.

I never understood the hatred of Win8.. Its just Win7 with a tile interface that you can skip. All you have to do is install a 3rd party start menu such as ClassicShell http://www.classicshell.net/. No issues with Win8.

That may well be the case but I am still limping along with L3 and would dearly love this upgrade. I wonder if there there is a kind sponsor out there willing to assist. That doe I would not be so far behind.

I realize most of that but don't lose my point. It is no secret that Windows 8 has been attributed to the present major slump in PC sales both hardware and software. Industry experts call it the most damaging thing to have happened in the industry. And just as Microsoft is attempting to fix the problem Logos is bailing on the upgrade sale. Doesn't seem like smart business to me.

That is nice to know. All my hardware came with Windows 7 and the only exposure to Win8 I have had is on my daughter's laptop. I have no hate for Win8, just a fondness for Windows 7.

I got Logos 4 as soon as it shipped but preferred Libronix 3 over it for the first year. I still have the Libronix machine running but have decided Logos 5 is better. I will probably jump on Logos 6 whenever it ships.
