A8 Indexer still crashes

Indexer crashes on my machine ever since A4. I can receive no auto updates at all and have to download the each new version by manually.

How do you force the program to reindex?

Anything else I can do to reset the indexer short of removing everything and taking 4 or 5 days to get back to where I am now. I am in India and have an extremely slow internet connection and want to avoid reinstallation if at all possible.

It's in the top left side of the bar. On the windows version it has in grey letters in the background "command". We don't have that in the Alpha yet!

When I type reindex now or anything else all it does is performs a search for those words and does not recognize it as a command.

This is a bug which we have reported over the weekend. Keep trying, for example type it and just hit <ENTER>. You will known you have hit the sweet spot when the blue icon appears. I somehow got it to go yesterday as I had to rebuild my index.

None of us can duplicate this internally yet. One key issue is that, unlike on Windows, on the Mac, typing the command and pressing return will usually do the "wrong" thing (run a search for the command text).

Instead, the steps most likely to result in success are to type the command (don't press return) and wait for the list of suggestions to fully generate. Then click the suggestion that isn't prefixed by "Search for".

The problem is that I can't get anything that is not prefixed by "search".

"reindex now" is not a supported command in the latest builds on Mac or Windows. Try "rebuild index".

There is a delay of several seconds between clicking the suggestion and the beginning of Indexer operation. It was during this delay that I was hitting the Enter key because I was believing that nothing had happened.

Well I finally got the blue indexer box to pop up in the menu bar by typing "rebuild now" but it still crashes. No matter what I do the little blue icon only remains for about 3 seconds and then crashes. Is there any other command that can purge the system. or any other suggestions?

Based on the logs you posted in a separate thread, it looks like you're being bitten by a bug we've seen a few instances of. There will be some code in the next Alpha to help us track the issue down, but I suspect it's a corrupt resource. When we ship the next Alpha, I'll post instructions that should help us figure out which resource is having issues and we can either investigate whether it is a resource corruption issue or an issue on our end.
