Romanian Bible

Hello!

I am coming back with a request for a Romanian Bible version under Logos. I am an user of Logos 4 for Mac, but I miss a Romanian version. You have so many versions in different languages (even Hungarian, our neighbours). Why not a Romanian one?

Being a pastor, how can I recommend Logos 4 to my colleagues without a Romanian version?

Please, consider this: if there is anything I can help with, freely, I will do it. For a Romanian version on Logos (Dumitru Cornilescu, the most used translation in Romania).

Logos, we have not forgotten! For 3 years users have been asking for a Romanian Bible like the public domain Cornilescu. There are many brothers in Romania that need good resources, and many people in Romania that like to prepare using Romanian materials because it is a 2nd or 3rd language and it will help them to preach in the language better. Please make this happen!

Petre, I would like to encourage you to not give up on seeing Romanian Bible in Logos. A couple of years ago we have been exactly in the same situation with the Czech modern translations. We have started knocking the doors of both Logos and our Czech publishers and the result is that now we have 2 modern translations in Logos.

Before it happens, you always can create your own Personal Book Bible if you have digital text available. Of course the best solution is to have an official Logos version. You can find a lot of information how to do that here: http://wiki.logos.com/Personal_Books

Thank you Bohuslav! May God make this possible very soon! Yes, I use PBB, but I want a Bible that is accesible to tablet, phone in Logos App. I want to see a place for Romania also in Logos. And hopefully, that will happen!

I think we should log on everyday on the forum and bump this request at least twice a day until we are either banned from the forums or Logos releases at least one Romanian Bible! :-). I know you and I prefer the Cornilescu version since we are evangelicals and the Cornilescu translation is in the public domain but an Orthodox version would be extremely helpful as well since there are Eastern Ortodox Christians as well using Logos. I have PBBs of the Cornilescu translation as well as an Eastern Orthodox version but, as you indicated, we can't use the PBBs on mobile platforms (yet)..

Thank you for caring more than Logos seems to.

It looks like plenty of people have the Cornilescu translation but somehow Logos can't seem to find one. We would be happy with ANY version of the Cornilescu translation. All they have to do is search their own forums to find one. Any of us would gladly provide Logos with a docx file that Logos can turn into a regular Logos book and release it with any disclaimers they want/need.

I am not mentioning the Cornilescu translation because I want to leave out the Romanian Eastern Orthodox Christians. I tried to make a Romanian Eastern Orthodox Bible pbb but there is no bible data type that matches the verse/chapter numbering of the the Romanian Eastern Orthodox Bible so unless Logos makes something specifically for it getting it done via a pbb is difficult and time consuming. I know because I tried.

The version you provided had 4 missing chapters in 1 Peter. I added the missing chapters and I also used the Romanian book titles instead of the English ones. Here is the file:

Several years past since this post and Logos is not very concerned about a Romanian version of the Bible. I have written some e-mails to them and after many attempts I received an email with the idea to have a Romanian bible as a personal book. But this is of not much help. It does not help to link it with commentaries and other projects at work. I don t know why there is not a desire to provide for a Romanian Translation. There is now several of them: Noua Traducere Romana (NTR), Cornilescu are one of the most useful.

One and a half year passed since the last reply to this post and still no sign of a romanian translation for romanian logos users. It's really annoying since we have Cornilescu traslation, NTR translation and the new EDCR translation. I'm sure that someone can do something to have it in Logos. We ask you again to take into consideration this one.

We are in the 8 years later since the thread started and no progress still!!! Logos was at iteration 4! And my colleague that initially started this thread is already past Logos in his daily use, he moved on and invested much more in Accordance. I am on discouraged on investing more in Logos seeing this level of commitment for international Bibles is underwhelming and disheartening.

I am unsure as to how this financial side of things seems to be the motivating factor.
I sincerely doubt that the users of Romanian language would be fewer than some of the readers of the languages for which Logos has a Bible.

I tend to believe that we would have to be lobbying and see if we could escalate the matter and push it further with increased pressure. In simpler terms, the addition of the Romanian Bible would add greater functionality and internal integration for our needs, making the software more relevant, we all know this.

What we could do is to keep this thread bubbling and make sure it's visible. If we can get other people to add their voices here, maybe we have a better chance of actually being heard. Adding a Romanian Bible can't possibly be this hard. Let's offer the incentive. Methinks that allowing us to actually evangelize according to Mt 28:19-21, Acts 1:8, Logos should have had at least 1 version of the Bible available in all the languages that have a full translation.

Below is the list of the languages in which Logos has Bibles to offer, currently. To argue that each of these languages have a user-community that is larger than the Romanian speaking user-community I anticipate to be forced at best, wishful thinking or prefabricated marketing response to keep calm and carry on.

I think that if you could find a team of people that know Romanian, Greek, and Hebrew to go through the process of aligning the words we then could submit a proposal, they might go for it. I worked at Faithlife a while back and would happily submit the proposal to the right person.

I have read your message after you wrote it have thought about it a bit, investigated it offline (and after reading again the search results on "romanian bible" on this forum it is really hard for me not to rant), and checked the required work to be done.

And let me ask: What you suggested above implies that all the Bibles in the list above, say Esperanto and Albanian or Norwegian or Serbian have had this this work done for them, and only after this process has been done were said Bibles "approved/fit to be included in Logos"? What's your take here?

Jon, I realise your best intentions, but since you mentioned this I want to expand the prespective a bit also for the administrative Logos/Faithlife eyes that eventually may look here, while coming back to the actual work and effort you suggested.

I may offer a bit of context as I researched what this entails. I do have friends and colleagues that work by their own volition to do that (word allignement btw languages and versions) for Accordance, and it is no small feat and they have been engaged it it for a while now. They are great scholars and the work is requiring masoretic level of attention and tediousness, to use an accessible figure of speech. Accordance has been common-sensical, and let me underline this, although the project has been proposed bottom up - that is from users, Accordance is willing to support their effort and reward them with resources inside Accordance for their own benefit, of their choice that would compensate the work-hours invested in this effort. Accordance is the one here to capitalise on their user-base productively.

I really do want to bring this into perspective and compare this with the approach: "Please do that for free, and maybe then this can be included..." seems ... capitalistic and exploitative. Of course you didn't intend it to be perceived this way. That would make the offer in turn be a sort of ... an expensive bait for Logos from us interested parties (this could be read informally and streetwise along these imaginary lines: "C'mon guys, see, they went to all this trouble, they did all the work, now please be willing to include it in the software, that's the only favour they are asking, surely you could do that..."). Then the medicine would become more expensive than the illness - so to speak. Which would be a no-go.

If Logos would be so generous, only including simply the Bible as an un-aligned book, that would alternatively work, as verses are reasonably aligned still - if there are actually Logos supported Bible versions that can be included that way. And the latter, better version, could be worked upon in time, but in a more rewarding way, and maybe with an if. Still thanks for looking at this.

Another thing would be to gather all the Romanian speaking users of Logos and petition them officially in throngs, at customer-service, since the Forums doesn't receive that much of official attention. Still thinking of how to do that.

Yes, the information provided in the wiki on verse-maps is evidence that this has been done but there is a proviso - word-by-word is required only for interlinears/reverse interlinears ... phrase-by-phrase or clause-by-clause is sufficient for a verse map.

If Logos would be so generous, only including simply the Bible as an un-aligned book, that would alternatively work, as verses are reasonably aligned still - if there are actually Logos supported Bible versions that can be included that way.

In this case, which is true for eBook Bibles, the resource does not/cannot function as a Bible but as a monograph.

I have always been fairly compensated for work; only Faithlife can speak to what they would or would not do. When a forum user suggests what might be able to be arranged, take it as that -- don't judge the company on it.

I suggest that you look at this list from a different perspective:

Which languages are there for early manuscripts - Coptic
Which languages are there because early computer linguistics work used the language - Finnish
Which languages are there because of current or former partnerships - Afrikaans

I am sure there are other relationships as well as additional examples for the relationships I gave. Think all market forces not just size of potential market.
