Syncronizing Licenses with Server

When trying to synchronize my licenses with the server Libronix 3.0g (on my laptop) says "You must be connected to the internet" I AM connected. However, for some reason the program cannot find that I am connected. This used to work fine. Whats the fix?

I have changed nothing on the laptop except location. Last week it worked fine at home. I was at a motel, got the free book (I thought) and it "complained" there. Now, at home, it is still complaining. Browser and all other internet accessing programs on this laptop work fine.

I did have this problem about a year ago and Tech Support took me through a series of steps. The part I recall was I was to delete something and then restart Libronix as if I was just starting the program from a fresh install (except the "Resources" were left intact) - entering passwords, confirmation codes, etc. I was thinking others may have run into the same thing and the procedure is somewhere in the forums.

If indeed tech's solution applies here, go to ProgramData on your 'c' drive, scan Libronix, then go into 'Library' and rename the Lisenses and Cache directories. Before you restart copy your user from the program help. Then restart and it'll direct you to ID yourself.

When you restart, make sure the LibSys program also closes (which normally happens).

If this doesn't work then rename the above directories back. I doubt it works.

Hmmm ... I think we'll need Dave's help on XP.

I was in a hurry above; family wanted 'dinner'. But I can't imagine how the internet non-recognition would affect the licenses, etc.

I'd of thought your virus application software was blocking Libronix. I sometimes block Libronix, resulting in the message you saw.

I guess you have to look here: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Libronix DLS\Library. Martin.

I got this resolved! However, it might be beneficial to have some details for others struggling with issues of the "orphaned" program.

First, thanks to Martin - I did disable the Firewall to no avail AND to Denise - I tried in numerous ways to use your info, again to no avail.

Here's what I did: The problem - On seeking to syncronize, Libronix said "Must be connected to the internet." I was!

Step 2 - I decided to see if "Update" worked within the program. It also complained without detail "cannot initialize."

Step 3 - I shut down Libronix. I went to the Program Files/Libronix DLS/System and found the "update" executable, "Update.exe" and started it. It also complained, but with more information, Could not initiate HTTP. File not found. Error Code 17 (This was the key)

Step 4 - I went to Logos Support - was told basically NO SUPPORT, except previous archives. I went to "http://www.logos.com/support/logos3/windows" and searched for Error Code 17. I was given 2 "possible" solutions. Solution 2 worked!

Step 5 - Solution 2 involved MS-Explorer (Who would have thought these programs are so closely tied to Explorer - I prefer Firefox) Anyway, Error Code 17 deals with failure in "Update" (obviously also a failure to connect to the internet) Here was the solution: (1) Open IE; (2) Go to Tools | Internet Options; (3) Connections Tab; (4) LAN settings button; (5) Check the "Automatically detect settings" option; (5) OK to exit.

A restart of Libronix now allowed both "Update" and "Synchronize" to find the internet. [The only thing that possible changed I surmise was that a WiFi connection at a motel recently had Windows change something?????] Anyway, things are now working.

*** GETTING UNLOCKED Libronix Books - One more thing that might be helpful. In ordering older books that were also available for Libronix as well as Logos 4/5, I found many having trouble with them arriving "locked." What was happening with me was that even though "Update" appeared to be downloading the new license along with the book, a license backup BEFORE and AFTER revealed that the license was not being updated. SOLUTION: (1) By the desired book; (2) Logos 4/5 will retrieve it automatically; (3) For Libronix MANUALLY syncronize your licenses FIRST. (4) Then go to the Logos site: Accounts | Orders | Order # - and Download from there. Because you ALREADY have the license, the books will arrive unlocked w/o problems.

I trust all this helps. I still use Libronix for Library, Speed, PBB's and Simple searches. It beats the wait for downloads and indexing of 4/5. Us users can help one another keep this "orphaned" version alive. Maranatha, Paul
