My wife has started reporting that her mac is crashing (crashing ... a mac !
). In years of her having portable macs, they have never crashed (and as resident IT support, I am a bit pleased about that!)
It turns out that it is the logos indexer causing her machine to crawl to the point of being un-responsive, not actually crashing, but having all the appearance of a crash.
Slow indexing is well documented on these forums .... but does anybody know how to stop the indexer launching at the startup of the mac?
It is only recently that I have managed to encourage her to explore the software .... and having installed L5, it is making her mac unusable when she wants to use it (email, word etc.) .... constant downloads and indexing are interfering ... starting even when she does not want (or need) logos. Why is there the assumption that any computer with L5 installed should be dedicated to the use of L5, and and at startup be optimised for L5?
In addition, for some design reason, L5 cannot have only a subset of my resources (my iPad can, but not my desktop computer!). This means that stuff is always coming her way, almost on a daily basis. I know that was true with L4 etc. but why is that restriction still in place? Hiding resources is not an answer. All she needs/wants are a few basic resources (4/5 translations, a couple of commentary set, and some basic dictionaries) ...
