returning Bible verse context

Given a Bible verse, I would like to get the context.  The first thing that occurred to me is to somehow use the section headings.  Then it occurred to me that biblia.com may already have this functionality...

For example:
   Input: John 3:16
   Output: John 3-16-21

Any suggestions or pointers?
