New product line for Logos: Dissertations and Thesis ?

I am wondering if the user base here would be interested in Logos obtaining the rights to Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Thesis, from seminary students, for use in Logos?

Do you think that would be a beneficial product bundle for customers and Logos?
Could Logos make any money on this? Is there any demand/need for this?

(I am wanting to help Logos be successful, thought I would throw the idea out for discussion.)

Antonius, I have had the exact same thoughts in the past although I have never expressed them. I think this is an interesting idea but not sure how the details could be worked out. But I can say that I personally would be interested in obtaining thesis papers and think that this would be a great addition to Logos.

But I agree that having a separate product category for them and making it clear that that's what these are would be a good idea. And getting more of them. Many of these papers are excellent. The cost in Logos should be in line with what it costs to buy them as PDFs from TREN, with a reasonable markup for the cost of tagging them. If they are way out of line with that, they won't sell. These are the sorts of things people would normally only need to buy when researching a very specific topic, since they are usually so very focused.

If Logos does start offering dissertations/theses, they would also need to have a better search facility on their website (akin to TREN's) for finding ones that might be relevant to a research topic a Logos user is working on. Otherwise they will sit there in the catalog gathering virtual dust.

Another product idea: Scholarly Journals

Some background: I am a part time (one night a week) student at a seminary. The Logos salesman came to the seminary the week to give some demos, training, and make new sales. We had 80+ students and professors purchase Logos earlier this year. We all got a nice discount on our purchases. There are professors at my seminary who are writing books, papers...

So, when any professor at a seminary that gets a Logos discount, writes a scholarly paper, they send it in .docx format to Logos (free). For books, the author/professor gets a royalty ...

Also, have all these same seminaries Masters and Doctorate students send in their Thesis and Dissertations in .docx format to Logos (free).

A nice supply of product for Logos that is no cost and already in the proper format...

I agree that digitizing old paper documents will be to expensive.

Perhaps I am not understanding you correctly but in my mind many current Logos resources don't even represent the "entire breadth of Christianity" because of a tendency that authors have to approach topics from their own theological perspective.

I'll throw out another idea I've had recently, in the context of this thread - since the idea came to me while writing my most recent research paper for seminary:

I've mentally called the feature "Citation Graph". It wouldn't surprise me if bibliographic software didn't have this already.

The most recent concrete example of when I'd like to have it is when I was doing some exegesis in Titus and every commentary seemed to reference either one specific book or one specific ancient document (though I believe those references were indirect - through BDAG).

A citation graph would visually represent the references (lines) to resource locations (nodes). I suspect page number is the most granular you could get for resource locations. The visual representation would help make it clear which resources are primary and which happen to be most referenced, even if not primary. I wanted to know this because I had developed a premise that if I could refute one particular citation, I would effectively be refuting most every other commentary on the issue in question.

Thats the sort of thing you are trying to prevent I should think.

But Logos allows a wide scope of positions, conservative and liberal. Catholic, protestant, and otherwise. Even the book of mormon, and Quran are available in Logos... So publish them all, and let the end users decide if the individuals thesis merits use (or not).

Apologies if the title offends anyone, but I imagine most of us hold to the inspiration of the autographs more than the translation work it self. But I digress.

Publish them all, let schools be known for what they produce, and hide resources accordingly lol.

No, and I have never read a dissertation that was a "slam piece."

What I would want is many authors from a wide variety theological backgrounds.

But Logos allows a wide scope of positions, conservative and liberal. Catholic, protestant, and otherwise.

Kindof, While there is a wide variety of theological perspectives, there is not balance. Logos is correcting this issue, but they are a long ways from achieving it.

I think I understand but my point is that anyone who writes tends to write using their own perspective as a filter to write what they say.

This sort of thing would be supported by the Logos PB store that was "promised" but has never materialized.
