can a used libronix cd from yard sale be used again?

If I were to purchase some of them old products that came in the cd from libronix times from yard sale.. would it be a good idea to buy it and install it in my computer? I'm pretty sure the key has been used before .

but, do logos still honor those things if I call? or can I just install the files directly from CD to L5?

As I understand it, if the original key was used, it would have to be deactivated and/or the license transferred. This may be difficult to do from a yard sale, and it's even possible that the original key was never used, or never synced with the Logos servers (long shot, but not everyone uses their Christmas/birthday gifts).

But if that's not an issue, or one easily dealt with, the resources you buy (assuming the transfer can be done), would work in Logos 5. You would not transfer the files directly from the CD to L5, though you could use the scan command for that. However, if the resource was updated, it would be replaced by the newer version of the resource in L5. I'm not aware of any Libronix resources released on a Logos CD for which this would not be true. This could be true of Libronix resources released by other publishers (Nelson, Ages, etc.).

You're in licence transfer territory in this case. You'd need the permission of the previous licence owner, and $20 admin fee to Logos. Without that, the key won't be valid.

Not a good deal if you're buying a cheap resource. But a pretty good deal if you find a copy of L4 Portfolio for $10 [:)]. At least they let you transfer licences. Try do that with iTunes or Kindle...

That is $20.00 per group, not per book. Like if you found libronix Gold it would be $20.00 to transfer the whole collection.

Its worth sending an email to customer service and asking if they will activate the liscense on your account.

Explain you bought it at a yard sale. Send them a picture of the install media and key. Ask them to please activate it on your account.

Maybe they will, or maybe they will need 20$... But if you can prove possession, under the right circumstances that is sufficient.

They will still need to contact the original owner if it has been registered…. Circumstances may prove else wise, i mean like the account it registered too hasn't been accessed for 7 years and and no trace of person X can be found, perhaps it can be transferred but that is only a guess.

Possession of the media alone will not suffice if the install code has been licensed. Only an unused code can be registered.

It works just the opposite. If it has been registered Logos can attempt to contact the registered owner and gain their approval to transfer the license. If Logos can not reach the registered owner the license is not transferable.

I have had about a 50% success rate getting resources this way.I only get the resource if they answer Logos in the affirmative.

Perhaps God has just been watching out for me... I have had no fees levied, nor any trouble with them activating used/new 3rd party, or Logos products through customer service.

I always explain the situation, purchased on Amazon, craigslist, ebay, garage sale; Tell them how much I paid, send them a copy of the original sales receipt (when applicable), an image of the media and license key (and my drivers license to demonstrate its not a picture I copied off the internet) its seldom settled on the first call (call, explain, send requisite data, call again), but they have always activated these things on my account. Even (and I hesitate to post this because I am almost certain it was the exception and not the rule) an academically licensed base package I had purchased.

It may be that the latter was able to be done since I am signed up for their academic program. But I don't know.

In any case, Logos always has gone above and beyond any time I have needed them.

Even with the antiquated packages, that I couldn't even install due to my computer being too new, they went ahead and activated what was appropriate based upon the package and version letters (scholars JF or whatever it was).

I am happy for you. I am sure your thorough approach helps.

I am not at all complaining since some of my acquisitions came from a thrift store where they were likely donated from an estate liquidation. Logos has been gracious with me every time I have had a problem.
