Logos usually does a special sale then (but you don't have to travel to Bellingham at crazy hours and wrestle the offer of your choice from the hands of somebody else who was just as needy of it as you).

It's only in America because it's connected to their Thanksgiving holiday.
Perhaps Logos could offer sales around holidays that other countries celebrate as well. Then we'd have sales most of the year. [:D]

I am praying for half price or lower on the Zondervan Illustrated Background Commentary - Old Testament or the whole series.
Will some location few preach on these days grow cold first?
Will Jesus come back before this happens?
I hope not.

Thanks, everyone. I have a little budget set aside for the McArthur commentaries before they disappeared. I'll make a note in my diary to check the Logos website on that day - although I expect I will receive email reminders well in advance! In case anyone from Logos is monitoring this thread, I would like the NIV Application Commentary set on the Prophets for a course I am running in the New Year. Please.

I think they should include maybe a small section on the BFS with the title 'Who'd Be Crazy Enough to Pay These Prices Sale'. Then include all the resources that the publishers attach unbelievable prices to. It wouldn't be very economical for Logos, but we're talking the BFS.

We're headed that way, actually. We ran a sale for Canadian Thanksgiving last week. As we hire more International Market Managers, expect to see more of that.

I slipped across the border (Arizona to Utah) and tried out the Canadian Thanksgiving Sale. It's kind of squirrel-ly (in honor of Thanksgiving of course).
First, the sale page doesn't show the sale prices (at least on my browser, cookies or not, scripting or not). Then when I selected a book (using my Canadian passport), the coupon did give a GOOD price cut. Then when I added a second book, it didn't give me ANY price cut.
So, the web programming is pretty good. Arizonians are not Canadians. But it's a very nice sale for real Canadians.

Denise, are you saying that the technology is set up in such a way that only Canadians can see and use these coupons? If so that is pretty impressive.

Does one generally get better prices at the Black Friday sale than by talking to sales reps? I have some minor bit of research funding that should arrive in the next two weeks or so, and figuring out the best way to allocate it.

No, but I ran into this problem as well, as I took advantage of two Canadian Thanksgiving specials. I had to separate the coupon codes with commas, not with semicolons like I thought I did (and I saw that a new coupon took away the rebate from the older item, and space- or semicolon-separated codes took away all rebates. I was ready to purchase single items but tried comma-separation first. IE9 it was.

I know this is unlikely, but I would like to see the Theological Journal Library 1-15 on sale come Black Friday.

After I rationalized that at least a few Canadians are rumored to buy resources on American holidays, I went ahead back across the border, and bought what (so far) looks to be very good reading at a very good price.
However my second purchase had to fall by the wayside, since unlike NB, I didn't know that magic words to unlock the secrets of Logos sales.
But I saved money; more than I spent on the other volume. So, essentially I put money in the bank (practicing for the primaries next year).

While I am collecting money for this set, Logos raised silently the price. Dynamic price used to be for upgrade from vol 1-10 $188.95 and now is 193.46 [:'(]

Hey Mick! *smile* It really is a Special Day here! Thanksgiving Monday is the holiday! Everything is closed!
Sunday is called Thanksgiving by the Christians! The chancel - altar- entrances - and/or other areas are often decorated with the fruits of the field including corn stalks, et cetera -- The cornucopia is often featured ... this is not from my church, but it's a good example .... It's called Harvest Home by some also

If you and I both missed the Canadian Thanksgiving sale it makes me wonder how many other Canadians missed the sale and how it was advertised.
Also, the book I bought through the sale was also Shadow of the Temple which I began reading last night. What an excellent book to give the background for the times of Jesus and the early church. I am enjoying it immensely.

Now what day could be used for us here in the UK?? We don't seem to do "Thanksgivings", more like "Grumblings"! We do have the Queen's Birthday but it is only recently that we started having a day's holiday for that.

Same here for you three: I had picked two other works and totally overlooked this book. Now checking it out again (viewing into it and skimming some comments at a large retailer platform) I'm glad to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving with one more resource - for all those curious (and maybe "underwhelmed" or outbudgeted by the PAM so far): the sale runs until today!

Good ol' Serendipity! Nothing like it, eh??? This book came "out of the blue" for me also! For others of you, here's the Introduction:
Introduction
Yet another book on the Jewish roots of Christianity?
Yes, but hopefully with a difference. Most books on this topic are written by scholars for fellow scholars or as textbooks for students. This book is neither. It is intended for the general reader. Through the years, I have felt an increasing fascination with the story of Christian origins. In this book I try to convey some of that fascination.
I decided not to tell the story as a connected, chronological narrative. The approach is rather to focus on some selected themes, then illustrate them with representative episodes, snapshots, anecdotes.
When a scholar writes for the general reader, he or she normally uses quite some space to inform about different theories and points of view. I do that to a certain extent, but I have not been shy to present my own picture. It goes without saying that on many, perhaps all points, it is possible to see things differently. For this reason—and to answer the inquisitive reader’s question, “Where can I read more, and something different, about this?”—the book is dotted with footnotes and “Suggestions for Further Reading.” Many of the titles in these sections represent other points of view than those argued in the book.
My work on the book began in 1983 in Jerusalem. Since then, a formidable flood of books and articles on the theme has appeared. It has meant much work in trying to keep abreast of all these interesting publications; it has also been great fun. Hopefully some of the fun has spilled over into the book.
Most authors feel the need for serious disclaimers with regard to books as comprehensive as this one: it simply must contain mistakes of fact, judgement and method. It certainly does. But it lies in the very nature of historical inquiry that “results” are always preliminary and open to revision and improvement. I would very much like to think of a book like this as my contribution to an open-ended conversation going on in the enlightened community of readers.
Let me add a few lines about the book’s main thesis. Many standard works about Jewish-Christian relations in antiquity more or less presuppose that all real contact and debate between Jews and Christians had already come to its natural end during the first decades of the second century a.d. According to this view, the Jewish matrix of Christianity is something to be treated quite briefly on the very first pages of textbooks on church history. The church historian often assumed that he or she could leave the more thorough treatment of Jewish background and Jewish matters to the New Testament experts, since this was most relevant to the first-century period and not very important with regard to the predominantly Gentile church of the second and later centuries.[1]

Brother Mike:
I am right there with you, as your choices are nigh the top of my Lifetime wishes, although I am positive Logos will surprise us all. In addition,
let's not forget our friends at Logos in our prayers for BF13. I am sure that they have a wish list of their own.
For you folks at Logos, could you please deliver a wish via the ombudsman for Academic (Seminarian/ Bible College) Sales [T. Sebens {?}], or
whomsoever is the appropriate Diplomatic Representative. With all of Logos, (especially if backed up by the upper echelon) I would hope for one
humble request on BF13: a wish for Grace. That singular wish might carry a great deal more clout, were it to come from (t)him [sic] & Logos
than from us paeans, (monkish seminarians), appearing to whine for breaks. If the request for GRACE is at the Great and Mighty Gates of Moody
Book(s) (Publishers, that is. They could be reminded that 275 titles offered out of the imputed Grace of the Holy (figurative) circumcision of their
hearts by the Spirit, so rendered because of Heavenly Vision, and statement of purpose, I know that they would not be thought of as having
similarly hardened hearts (of Pharaohnic variety), that Big Corporate America seems to have adopted toward the folks at the very bottom of the
ladder economically (I pray that my heart is okay_ I just want to learn). There are so many people that would benefit exponentially by any move
in this direction (compared to a similar such gift of loaves and fish nearly 2000 years ago). Twould be immediately noticeable, as we,the lowly
pastoral disciples, learning and thereby teaching, and training, by the millions,... well the numbers are astronomical, when one considers what
a group of a couple of thousand (maybe) lowly pastoral disciples could do with support of that magnitude (given, however, our limited human
abilities). I am sure this is well known, & has been considered by Our Heavenly Father in His Sovereign Plan, (already so ordained). Any more
pleas on my part would border on idolatry of knowledge or even worse, money.
God, our common Father knows the strain and struggle in the ways of things in this world, these days. Any further attempts at intercession on
my part is both pedantic and unnecessary. The staff at Logos are continuing to support us in every way humanly possible, and I am grateful.
Blessings, in Christ's Holy Name,
David C.

Whyndell, I think you just have to put what you want them to price out for you in you wish list on Logos. I did not see anything related to Facebook. It appear to me they are trying to personalize the sale for what you want. I could be wrong, but I do not see how that is total.....

Good news, Whyndell, you don't need to register on Facebook to either take advantage of the sale or to help pick items for the sale. Just add resources to your Logos.com wishlist. Details can be found here: http://blog.logos.com/2013/11/this-years-black-friday-deals-are-up-to-you/

Whyndell,
Apparently, you and I feel the same way about some of the Facebook nonsense that has invaded what I used to tell myself was a peaceful existence (before Face Book). However, I am confused as the dickens about what you are referring to. The force of what felt like pure, molten ire seemed to leap off my screen when I read your post, I hope the gain on my wiring for sensitivity is high right now. I don't believe even in the foggiest orienteering, that Logos would or has, based, the acquisition of any resource on membership in any thing other than your own account. Is it possible, that some wires got crossed somewhere, or an assumption was made based on erroneous information?

Wow, some one woke up on the wrong side of the bed...LOL...cheer up! I've felt the same way before, but I love the program and little by little I'm rebuilding the library I used to own (it was literally paid for). Once I get to own what I used to own then I'll probably stop and just buy what's necessary in extras. So far no complains with Logos, great program! Though I must agree some sales get annoying when signing up to facebook or twitter or any other unnecessary stuff is involved.
