App closing when editing note

When trying to edit a note (after selecting one of the 3 notes available for the word I selected) and change the highlight from bold to no highlight, the app closes. Tried a couple of times, same result.

Hm...I'm unable to reproduce this. Can you send me your crash log information? You can do this by following these steps:

Attempt to change the note highlight color (make the app crash)
Re-open the app and go to the "Help" screen in the navigation drawer
Click the "Send Support Info" button
When your email app opens, change the address in the "To:" field to drew DOT hannay AT logos DOT com (so the logs will come directly to me instead the support address)

I changed the color of the note, no problem. I tried again to change from bold to no highlight and the app closes with no error.

It seems to got fix by itself. What I tried last was:

Select word, Edit note, select 1st highlight, it was shadow (back button)

Select 2nd highlight, it was bold (back button)

Select 3rd highlight (with note), changed the underline to another highlight. No problem. Retried to change from new highlight to no highlight, no problem since then.

I cancelled the changes, but now, when trying to change highlight from underline (sorry, it is underline, not bold as I wrote in previous posts) to no highlight it works.

Well, I'm happy your issue is resolved, but a bit disappointed we couldn't figure out the underlying cause. [:P]

I am able to reproduce the problem with the following steps:

Select a verse, highlight with "Resaltador Verde" (My Bible App is in spanish)
Select a phrase within that verse, highlight with "Brillo Amarillo"
Select another phrase within that same verse but after the previous highlighted phrase, highlight with "Brillo Amarillo"
Select a word within the first highlighted phrase, edit note
It displays the whole verse & 1st highlighted phrase, select phrase
Change "Brillo Amarillo" to "Sin Resaltado", and after pressing the back button, the app closes with no error.

Hm. Your logs came through successfully this time, but they basically just say "the app crashed" and don't give much useful information. I tried reproducing the issue using your steps, but I'm still not having any luck. Can you give an example of a specific verse I can try? Like, what resource should I use, what verse should I highlight, and what words within that verse should I highlight as my sub-phrases? I'm wondering if this might have something to do with the lengths of the highlights.

This is Reina Valera (1960), Psalms 15:4.

I tried the following:

Select "daño", edit note, select phrase, change highlight to no highlight. After pressing back button, app closes.
Reopen app, doing the same with "cambia". Crash.
Reopen, with "jurando". Crash.
Reopen, with "cambia" again. No problem.
Then tried with "ojos". Crash.
Reopen, with "daño" again. No problem.
Trying with "ojos" again. No problem.
Trying "vil". Crash.

When trying these combinations, after many app crash & reopen, my tablet crashed and restarted.

After restart, at first, no problem when trying any word, everything seems ok.

I proceed to erase highlights and add new ones, then I tried with another verse similar to verse 4 above, and the problem reappeared with the same behaviour as described above.

I've erased the app cache and data, and tried with a new account. Same problem. It even crashed the 1st time I tried to highlight a group of 3 verses.

Just wanted to give another update on this issue...

Gabe has been looking into this and he was finally able to reproduce the crash. Unfortunately he didn't have time to find a fix before we shipped the 4.0.6 beta. This is definitely a high priority for us though...it seems the crash can happen when editing any highlight and doesn't require many of the specific reproduction steps listed in this thread. We'll keep you all updated as we find and fix the cause of this issue.

Sorry, changes weren't quite ready for the 4.0.6 beta that was released yesterday. I'm pretty sure at this point that this problem is specific to trying to change highlights. If you do want to change highlights I'd recommend just deleting it and creating a new highlight instead for the time being.
