Bible Word "Look Up"

I am trying to get the latest version of IOS to lookup the word "relieved" in Psalm 4:1. When I do the "look up" on my MacBook Pro I get the Strong's definition along with my other resources but when I do this on my iPad mini (1st gen) I do not get the Strong's definition but I get the BDB and the DBL Hebrew definitions which do not seem to be tagged directly to the word "relieved". I have the Strong's dictionary installed on my mini but have been unable to figure out how to get Strong's to display when I do a "look up". I am sure this is operator error so if someone can help this operator I would greatly appreciate it!

    Hi Bob

I am guessing - please correct me if I am wrong - that you are seeing BDB & DBL in the BWS panel not the actual lookup window.

i get the Strongs number in the lookup window as below:

    Are you seeing something different?

    Graham,
Sorry but I wasn't clear enough. What you see is exactly what I see however when I click on "Bible word study" the Strong's definition DOES NOT display. What I see is the BDB and DBL.

    Hi Bob

    Thanks for the clarification

I think you are coming across a long-standing issue (see http://community.logos.com/forums/p/61694/442039.aspx#442039 for a discussion of this) where the lexicons displayed in the BWS are not driven by desktop prioritization and we can't actually influence what is shown.

It would be really good if this were to be addressed.

Thank you for the replay and the info. I have downloaded Strong's and yet it still does not display. This is a serious limitation in my view. Another product I own displays the information correctly. It is things like this that trouble me with logos. It does many things well but this most important thing for me it does poorly!

    Hi Bob

I agree this is a real limitation and I don't understand why Logos don't honour the prioritisation.

As a temporary workround if you click on the DBL entry - which you do get - at the top of the entry is a link to Strongs. If you click on that you get access to the Strongs information.

So it is an extra click - and it shouldn't be required - but it should give you the information you are looking for.

    Brother,

I really appreciate all of your hard work helping me in this matter. I did once again in the NKJV click on the word "relieved" in Psalm 4:1. I clicked on "look up" and then clicked on "Bible Word Study". Then I clicked on the DBL Hebrew entry and it took me to 4200 informing me it was a preposition but I saw NO link to Strong's. I looked further into the 4200's and found Strong's link but NO link to Strong's 3773 (which is the correct word for the word relieved). Not sure where to go from here.

It does work perfectly on my laptop it is just the IOS version that is deficient.

    Hi Bob

You're actually hitting another issue here!

I can reproduce what you are seeing in NKJV but if you try NASB95 you should get different results (this is the version I was testing on)

This is because the word "relieved" in NKJV is translating two Hebrew words while in NASB it is just translating one.

See screenshot (from desktop) below to demonstrate this:

In the iOS BWS there is no option to specify which lemma you want to use (as there is on the desktop) and so the "wrong one" (for your purposes) is being selected.

Hope this makes sense - even if it doesn't fix the problem[:)]

Yes it does and thanks once again. I think when I get into serious study I will use my MBP with the inline display feature activated! Thanks again Graham.

The word lookup function is quite valuable, but very limited when offline.  It would also be nice to have this feature available when not connected to a network.  I would like to see the app draw this information from downloaded resources.
