Crash on Commentaries

Stephen Miller

Logos 5 crashes when I do the following :

1. Type in passage

2. Press for EXTRA Commentaries.

The last Commentary when I have been able to find it is Nuevo Comm. Ilustrado de la Biblia.

Hopefully the crash log file is attached.

Please provide more details to reproduce the issue e.g. is "EXTRA Commentaries" the Commentaries section of Passage Guide? What passage? What is your template (a screenshot would do)?

Sorry Dave.

Let me have another go.

In Passage Guide I chose almost any popular passage eg Psalm 23, John 3, Gen 1, Rev 20 etc.

Under Commentaries, 6 Commentaries are listed.

If I than chose MORE other Commentaries are listed, running out of the page and then Logos CRASHES.

Hope this explains what happens.

I still can't reproduce. Start Logos with CTRLkey held and upload Logos.log immediately after the crash.

Does it happens with any collection of your commentaries?

The crash happens with any passage (as long as there are quite a few commentaries listed).

The COMMENTARIES is the default "All Commentaries" as determined by Logos.4442.Logos4Crash.txt

This comes from an older version of Logos. Please follow my instructions (start with CTRL key) and upload Logos.log immediately after the crash.

My best guess from the log is that you have a corrupt resource file that is causing the crash. Unfortunately, the log doesn't specifically identify which one it is.

I'm trying to think if there's some way in the app to list your commentaries in priority order. Then you could work through them one by one until you found one that crashed when you opened it. After that, the solution should be to delete that resource file then run "update resources".

I can't think of a good way to do this... maybe using Parallel Resources in a commentary resource (and navigating through, one by one) would do it? Alternatively, it may be quicker to press the Right Arrow key, and note the last commentary you opened before Logos crashed.

I am quite happy to do what you request. It might take a few days with trial and error etc.

What I do note is that if I can catch up with the list as it is printed on the screen and before the crash occurs, the last commentary listed is Nuevo Comm. Ilustrado de la Biblia.

I deleted this resource and the ran "update resources". It was freshly downloaded.

I do note that this resources does not use the usual font. For some reason it defaults to Arial. I have tried installing all the Win and Win81 fonts but this made no difference.

2. I can get around the problem by pressing "Stop". In L3 it was possible to stop/start/stop the passage guide. There was a % done indicator as well. Is it possible to restart the Passage Guide in L5 after I have stopped it?

Bradley wants you to crash Logos using Parallel Resources (the All Parallel Resources list) to open the commentaries in a tab. The right arrow key will open the next commentary in the list. It may be quicker but directly opening them from the list means you will know the one that causes the crash! Note that you should start with the first commentary listed.

Once I understood what Bradley wanted me to do the solution came quickly.

The offending book was Bernstang Johannes (I never use that book!!!).

I noted that several resources in that set crashed L5. So I deleted and downloaded 25 resources in the set and .... Eureka!
