Bug or Design

Currently I have a reading plan that reads from the BHS and the LXX from the book of Leviticus.

I have a note that has a link to another Scriptural text. When I clicked on the link in the note file while reading from the BHS, the linked Scripture came up in Hebrew. Then I checked in the LXX, I opened the note and clicked the link and it was in Greek.

So I opened to the same text in the LEB, opened the note and clicked on it, and the Scripture text was from the LEB.

I'm wondering if this is a bug or a cool design feature.

My preferred Bible is the LEB.

Let's call it a feature. Features are much nicer than bugs. [;)]

What's happening here is that the link you created was (presumably) a link to a Scripture reference, not tied to a specific resource (ex: John 1:1, not John 1:1 in the LEB). So when you click on the link in your note document, the app says "Okay, this is a Scripture link. Is there an open resource in the other pane that can handle this Scripture link?" If so, it will just open to the reference in that resource, since that's probably what you want to happen (since you already have that resource open).

If the app can't navigate to that Scripture reference in the open resource (either the open resource isn't a Bible, or it maybe the link is to the Old Testament and that resource only has the New Testament), then I believe it will try to open your preferred Bible and navigate it to the reference.

The interesting thing - well, I find it interesting - is that the behaviour you describe is matched in the iOS app but not in the desktop / laptop application.

In Logos 5, clicking on the same reference will take you to your preferred Bible even if you are reading in another Bible.

So there is an inconsistency in behaviour across the platforms which - at minimum - it is useful to be aware of.

I think I prefer the way the mobile apps work and will raise a question in the Logos 5 forum to get any comments there.

If I had to guess, I would assume the mobile behavior is the way it is because opening a new resource is a much more computationally expensive operation on mobile than it is on the desktop. That's just my guess though.

I'm glad it is not a bug. I was just expecting it to work like the desktop.

The Greek in the pop up looks good, the Hebrew needs a little work though. A lot harder to read.

The desktop app can have many candidate resources to choose from. To select one of them as the destination you check the "Send hyperlinks here" menu item, but popups still quote the preferred bible.

Is this limited to Notes? I have always wanted Logos Android to work as you describe when the app is in split screen mode, but instead it navigates to the Scripture reference in the other pane only if the other pane is your preferred Bible. I would much prefer that if I have a Bible open the app assume that in this moment I prefer that Bible to my "preferred" Bible and navigate using it.

A concrete example - In the top pane I have the ESV open. In the bottom pane I have a commentary open. My preferred Bible is RSVCE. In the commentary I click on a Scripture reference (in this case, Mt 1:19), hoping that it will navigate the ESV to that reference, but instead it closes the commentary, and opens the RSVCE in the bottom pane, navigating to the tapped reference. Now I have the ESV open in the top pane, and the RSVCE in the bottom pane.
