BUG: Logos 5.2 Beta 3-Cannot Apply Second Highlight

I’ve noticed a problem when applying highlights using the shortcut keys.

I select the text I want to highlight, press the shortcut key for a highlight and it works fine. But then when I press a shortcut key to add a different highlight to the same selection, Logos refuses and “beeps” at me.

In order to apply the second highlight via a shortcut key, I have to deselect the text and then reselect it.

If I use the highlight panel (rather than the shortcut keys) for both highlights or for the second highlight, Logos will allow the second highlight to be added without have to deselect and reselect the text.

strange. I see you're on a Mac, maybe that's a Mac-specific bug or the OS has assigned the second key to something?

At least on my PC I can't replicate (I use this all the time - I mark up in yellow [assigned to Y] and add Logos-orange [kind of salmon-red on my screen, assigned to O] to get a nice bright orange for the special important words).

I'm sure a video-capture would help the Logos people to replicate (and perhaps a logos.log file... from where you're doing it)

Have joy in the Lord! Smile

To add on to NB.Mick's post, I couldn't replicate this on Mac 10.8. Could you please let us know:

    • Are you using 10.8 or have you upgraded to Mavericks?
    • What shortcut key(s) are you using, and are they assigned to anything else?

I've only ever experienced a "beep" like that when too many keys are being pressed, and that was always on Windows.

I am on Mavericks, using Logos 5.2 Beta 3.

I tried most of the keys—letters and numbers. I haven't got any global shortcuts assigned to a key without a modifier.

By "beep," I meant the system alert sound that you can set in the "Sound" of "System Preferences"—in my case it's the "Submarine" sound.

I'll restate my procedure in step by step form:

    1. Select some text to highlight in a resource.

    2. Press a shortcut key to highlight, or select from highlight panel.

    3. Notice that the highlight is applied and selection remains selected (as it should be).

    4. Press a shortcut key for another highlight (or press Shift-Command-K to delete it).

    5. Hear the system alert sound. Notice that the new highlight is not applied (or in the case of Shift-Command-K, the highlight applied in #2 isn't deleted).

    6. At this point, I can click on a highlight from the highlight panel or the erase button and they will work as expected.

Same setup here, but shortcut keys work as they should. Could apply three successive highlighters without deselecting the text. If it makes a difference, the resource was the Byzantine GNT, and I used both the Logos supplied highlighter pens and a homemade highlighter set.

I have tracked this down to a layout issue. Deleting my layouts and rebuilding them from scratch has fixed the problem.

Good that it is fixed [<:o)]; bad that it took that much to fix it [:'(]

Do you have the note file open and active in the new layout? I found that if the note file is open and active in a panel beside the resource panel, then the notefile get focus after pressing key to higlight the text. Then you have to change focus back to to the resource panel to apply a new highlight.

If the notefile is "hidden" below any other tab in the panel beside then you can apply a second highlight because the resource panel still have the focus.

(Maybe this not apply at all to your problem)

Well, the issue returned. I noticed that it occurs when I am highlighting to two particular note files. The other note files didn't seem to cause any problems.

So I quit Logos, went to the notes folder in ~/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Documents/xxx/Notes and noticed that my notes.db was 1.7 mb. I deleted the Notes folder, and restarted Logos. The notes.db re-synced at 2.8 mb (I wonder why?).

Now one of the note files works correctly (thankfully, the most important one), but the second doesn't.

I've created a case for a developer to look into this and linked to this thread.
