Hi Mike - and welcome to the forums
I saw a presenter do a search for Jesus and temple. It not only found verses with these two words, but also found verses that used other words that referred to Jesus, such as Him. What do you call this type of search and how do I do that?
This is a "clause search" something like that shown below:
To be able to carry out a clause search you need at least Logos Silver, Verbum Study or the Logos 5 Minimal Crossgrade. See http://wiki.logos.com/Upgrade_or_Crossgrade for more details.
Do you have a base package and, if so, which one?
Graham
I have had logos 5 since last winter. I just upgraded to platinum in September. My system has run more slowly since then and gives an error every time I close it, which is a different issue, but I could not remember how to do this search. Thanks very much.
Can I do a clause search for things other than a person or object, such as a topic? Where do I find instructions on the capabilities of clause searches?
Where do I find instructions on the capabilities of clause searches?
There is some introductory information at https://www.logos.com/support/logos5/clause-search
Can I do a clause search for things other than a person or object, such as a topic?
If you open a blank clause search window you will see the various options which are available. See below:
If you start building a clause search you will see options being presented to you:
Can you expand a bit on what you mean by "topic" in this context?
Are you familiar with the Topic Guide?
The few times that I have used topic guide it overwhelmed me with results and I had trouble getting something useful from it. I will explore it further. I want to find verses that have to do with thankfulness. I would like to find verses with other similar words like gratitude. I don't want to look through all the resources, just scripture on this topic.
In the New Testament, you could look at using Louw Nida domains.
In the screenshot above you can see that "thankful" in Colossians 2:22 is in the Louw-Nida semantic domain 25.99 (see popup)
The LN lexicon (bottom left) shows three domains within the wider context of the attitude of being thankful or grateful.
The top-right panel shows a search on that entire domain.
Similarly, 33.349-33.353 is a range used to denote the giving of thanks.
Hope this helps
