Verse Picker Competition!!!
In another thread, apparently the verse-picker seems to be evolving wildly. Most people may not have a lot of verse pickers to compare. It's a fairly modern issue. So here's our official review of the top four versepickers (actually the four we have on our iPod). Pardon the images; verse pickers are hard to picture.
Winner: OliveTree Runner-Up: Logos!!
LOGOS
Thumbs Up:
- Colorful; trains users on guessing the groups of books
- Completely fits whole Bible on one screen
- Allows users not familiar with book abbreviations to at least find the book and chapter (alternative TOC)
Thumbs Down:
- Can't 'skip to the chase' within the same book (see Olivetree entry)
Accordance
Thumbs Up:
- Larger than average buttons for ham-fisted Bible study
- Reminder of which book you're in so you can easily find it again
- Special headers to help new users concerning which covenant is involved
Thumbs down:
- All books in Bible won't fit; have to scroll if you want to read past Colossians (else you're ok)
- Can't skip selection of the same book/chapter (see Olivetree)
- Not as pretty as Logos with those gorgeous pastels.
OliveTree
Thumbs Up:
- All of Bible books available for selection
- Books grouped by type
- 'Skip-to-the-chase' book / chapter / verse selector at the top
- Tops Accordance with both a ribbon AND an azur palette for the book you're already in
Thumbs Down:
- Not as pretty as Logos; looks too professional-y
Laridian (PocketBible)
Thumbs Up:
- Retro-look (reminder to Apple not to mess with 3D-look!!)
- Works great with tiny-fingered Bible readers
- All the books of the Bible easily fit on the screen, plus the apocrypha, plus Barnabas and Enoch too!!
- Unique button for front-matter
Thumbs Down:
- Boring (Steve Jobs would never have approved this; goodness it's boring)
- No quick chapter or verse picker
