The continued slow performance level of Logos up through version 5, even on a really fast computer (iMac SDD/24 Gb Ram, 3.4 GHz, etc.) is quite frustrating, especially when compared with the relative quick speed of the Logos App on the much less capable iPad and iPhone. I think it would be awesome if Logos could create a program that instead of downloading all the resources to your computer and having it run endless indexes and still be frustratingly slow (ie. running slower that any other app I have, and about 10x slower than Accordance), it would work similarly to the iPad app. It would essentially be a small(er) app that would do the bulk of its work in the Cloud. This way Indexes only have to be run once (on Logos servers) instead of millions of times (all the Logos users' computers across the globe). In addition, people like me who want to run Logos on their MacBook Air, which is plenty fast enough to run everything else, wouldn't have to watch as Logos Indexer is always wanting to index, and it takes up ~20GB of my 128gb hard drive for resources, (and there is no way to run with a smaller set of resources, without turning off online syncing.).
The Desktop App would allow for saving of resources locally for offline use, but the majority of the work would be done in the cloud. Obviously the current app would continue to exist for users that have the ability to run a full Logos install, or that don't have good internet. It's kinda a Catch 22 for Logos since they created a really good iPad app thats fast, making their desktop mode feel like a sloth (much much kudos to them on the iPad app -which is why I find myself using that more than the computer, not just because it's easier to read, but less frustratingly slow to use). If you are unsure of the slowness I'm talking about, just use Accordance sometimes, it's virtually instantaneous, which is also another program that is getting equal if not more time than Logos, even though I only have the Greek and Hebrew Text + 2 commentaries in it, versus, 1000's of resources in Logos which I would love to use.
In addition, the app could be streamlined to run with a basic feature set, which would make reading, selecting text, searching, etc, be a lot cleaner and easier to do, with less visual clutter like the current version has, and more similar to the reading/searching experience on the iPad.
I know Logos 5 was a big project, but unfortunately the applicability of the features and fixes to me were near zero, especially since the "speed improvements" were quite small, compared to the amount of ground Logos has to catch up in this department.
As far as the increased server cost, it would be something that maybe Logos could charge a monthly fee for, and then users could get automatic updates to new versions (ie. 6, 7, 8) as well as access to the Cloud. (obvious, I would love it if Cloud access is free, but as a programmer myself, I understand nothing is free, especially a server load of this magnitude.)
It would just be nice if I could open logos on any computer, and have the start screen popup instantaneously, ready to work, and searches and reading could be done, without having watch spinners run, or things just feel slow.
