Speeding up Preparing Your Library/Indexing

Is there anything I can do on my end to speed up the "preparing your library" and "indexing" process? Does it depend on the speed of the Internet connection? Available memory on my computer? Processor speed?

Just about every time I open Logos, there are updates to download, then the library is prepared, then the indexing begins. Logos is always busy doing "something" whenever I want to access it quickly.

What about just leaving it open so the updates will download, prepare and index when I'm not at my computer?

I'm just looking for suggestions.

You can leave it open, and the updates should download automatically, but you have to manually restart to install them. Indexing will follow.

From other users' experience reported on this forum, hard drive speed seems to play a key role in the process. So if you afford a SSD, by all means and that should help.

Another suggestion is to turn automatic updates to "No." Then download and index when it's convenient for you.

It also helps to keep your hard disk defragmented, and to have a lot of free space on it.

The "Preparing" stage goes through every resource that has been downloaded and updates databases, so it is relatively disk intensive. Indexing is CPU intensive switching to disk intensive when the resources have been indexed. Both processes will benefit by having an SSD and a fast quad core processor. 6 - 8 GB memory is sufficient
