Well, while wait and hope for the number one object n user voice - the improvements, comprehensive improvements, in Notes, including a spell checker, I have tested alternatives, premium third party alternatives.
I have tried Ginger, Spellex, Tinyspell, Aspell, Asutype, Spell Catcher...perhaps others. Of those, it seems the best alternatives are:
- Asutype
- Spell Catcher
- Spellex
The challenges are getting them to work in the WPF environment? or that is my guess - some work in other apps, but not in Logos.
They are all in the $40 range and they work. Asutype and Spell Catcher work similarly, with an on the fly notification. Spellex uses a user initiated check - when you are ready to check it will check the whole note page.
Of these, I like Asutype. It is very customizable and works well in Logos. Spell Catcher is a bit dated for Windows (the Mac version looks slick, but I have no experience with a Mac). Spellex is scary in that, once you check and change or approve the spell check and click OK, it REMOVES the note page completely, reformats it, and pastes it back into the page, all with a new font. The scary part is when it removes the notes, the page stays blank for a long time - about 1 second - but it seems like 30 seconds! And, then, you will need to reformat to suit your needs - but your spelling will be right.
But, these are premium options and may not be ideal. It is not an option I relish, but if I am typing notes, I want to make notes and not worry about other distractions. So, I am wrestling with buying one of these until the internal spell check arrives...
