I have some money left in my professional development budget.  As of such, I am considering purchasing The New International Commentary on the Old Testament (NICOT) and the New International Commentary on the New Testament (NICNT).

Can anyone offer recommendations or comments on the usefulness of this resource?

Carl, the series almost speaks for itself. It is one of the most respected evangelical commentary series on the market. To get an idea of how these commentaries fare in relationship to others you can check out Best Commentaries and especially this link which shows where Best Commentaries rates OT NIC commentaries, and this for the NT ones.

I was most pleased when these came to Logos as I had many of them in print but wanted them to use in Logos. I sold the print ones and bought the Logos version. Very pleased to have them. You don't need to know the original languages to use them but they do refer (mostly in footnotes) to important issues in the original languages.
