Esther is scheduled for release next week.
It is exciting to see this series continue to grow.
Man... I just preached through Esther last summer.
Yes, it is making progress. I haven't read any of them. How do those of you who have bought these commentaries rate them? Have they been a real asset to you? How do they compare to other commentaries that you have? I also wonder how they are selling. Have they been reviewed by any periodicals? Would you recommend them as a good purchase for the money?

The casual review I have made on most volumes pleased me very much. I put the James volume by Varner to much more extensive use and made it my number one commentary on that Book.

I did a 10 part sermon series on Esther (one for each chapter, except the last two: 9:1-17; 9:18-10:3). I found most commentaries I have in Logos (including NICOT, Word) on Esther to be unhelpful. Most took the story at a macro-level, without engaging much in the details and nuance. For example, with all the wine-drinking in the book, and the role wine plays in moving the story (and the bad decision-making) forward, you'd think someone would notice the one time Xerxes walks away from his wine (at the point where the story makes its 180 degree turn), but not a single commentator took note of that. Few noted the way ambiguity works in the story to create questions that can only be answered as the story unfolds, or some, but not many noted how things tend to happen in twos (echoes of Hebrew poetry as a literary device).
I would be interested in seeing how this commentary handles certain passages, but I've already moved on to other foci and probably won't look at it too closely--at least for a while.
