Mac Note Files Unstable

I'm sending in crash reports as they happen, but Note Files in L5 Mac has been highly unstable for me. I'm trying to take down a collection of notes for an Exegetical Paper for college, but L5 keeps crashing on me when working in notes. I hope the teams will see the crash reports and work to resolve them. It's getting irritating since I need to store a lot of notes in L5 for my paper.

Sounds good. Installed it. Tomorrow I'll give it a spin and see what happens. If it crashes again, I'll post the logs here. It's happening on both Macs.

It might help to see what kinds of notes you are using as well. Logos isn't meant to be a replacement for a word processor... are your notes "simple," or are you writing a paper within the app?

Good news is I'm not trying to write the entire paper in Note Files. :-) However, my notes are a little lengthy and detailed (I've been digging through a lot of resources and coming up with too much good information!). I can share the Note File with you if you want to see what I'm doing. I think Logos "should" be able to handle what I'm putting into it.

When I have so many good resources and datasets at my disposal to dig through, it's hard to keep my notes too simple. :-)

I'll be needing to do more of this when I go for my M Div and PhD, so I hope Note Files can handle my research workflow. I know performance isn't perfect (and Bob can be a bit "noteaphobic" at times). But when it comes to writing seminary papers, we all need someplace to unload our research. If Logos decides to ever work on the performance of Note Files, maybe they'll hire programmers who are also seminary students. :-)

If I were back in seminary (or if I return for "one more degree"), I would personally use Evernote alongside of Logos. Keeping my notes outside of the app would help with sync issues, and I would have them in an accessible format on my iPhone and iPad.

As for your current issue, upload logs when you get a chance and hopefully someone who knows what they are looking for will be able to help you troubleshoot the issue.

One question though: Are the notes all english text (i.e. are there any tables or graphics? Hebrew? Greek?)

I work with Bible software for about 15 years now, and I never have taken notes within a program. To avoid problems like these, and exporting, formatting etc. I strongly recommend an external program like Word, Evernote, The Brain, Devonthink etc.

If I were back in seminary (or if I return for "one more degree"), I would personally use Evernote alongside of Logos. Keeping my notes outside of the app would help with sync issues, and I would have them in an accessible format on my iPhone and iPad.

Sounds good on the logs. If the issue happens again, I'll definitely post them.

They are majority English text. I did copy/paste a few paragraphs from commentaries, etc., that have some Biblical language text. I was going to use Clippings for this, but quickly became pretty disorganized with my clippings. I felt having everything in Notes would be easier when it came time to write (although I have a separate Bib document with all my citations).

The reason I'd like to stay in Logos if possible is for the searching of Notes inside Logos. That way down the road, if I have to write other papers, lessons, sermons, etc., on similar passages or topics, I can search my Notes inside Logos with the rest of my resources to see what I researched previously (having them appear in guides, etc. is nice too).

Might be a good idea. Does Evernote or another note taking app export to Word? I'd rather not type my notes in Word (just sounds awkward, unless I used Word for Mac's Notebook setup), but I could use a dedicated note taking app, then export to Word, then into Logos as a PB.

For all my papers, I definitely use PB's. Since they're usually already in Word, I just cleanup the formatting a little, toss them into PBB, and presto.
