Is there any way to configure the ‘Text Comparison’ feature so that instead of a narrow column on the right, it always displays as a full panel without having to drag it into the center of the screen?

No, it can't be configured. But you can drag it straight to the centre of the screen, rather than click and then drag.

Running Logos 5 in Windows 7 with a triple pane layout I drag "Text Comparison" into the pane of my choosing and click on the link set of my choosing.
