Gnostic-isians (especially): The NT and Gnosis: Essays ...

I'd suspect most Christians have no clue how on planet Earth, early Christians managed to theologically move from the 'gospels' and 'Paul' all the way over to a never-never land of everything being not what it is! And jewish Christians, no less! Within a fairly short time.
is a very good read. It's about 30 years old, but a good series of different scholars attempting to understand the process/beliefs. Price-wise, it's a bit hefty, but certainly not in the 'academic' price range.
I liked it primarily because of going through the NT 'tightly' and not making assumptions. And not unexpectedly, it achieves no 'answer'.
Recommended.

Thanks Denise. Looks interesting. I've not read it although I have it in my library. As a result of your post I've added it as a book to read in the near future.
Another book that I recently read that address the topic of Jewish influence in the early days of Christianity is "In the Shadow of the Temple" https://www.logos.com/product/2984/in-the-shadow-of-the-temple I highly recommend this too.

I read that a few months ago and likewise recommend it. Probably you should read something like https://www.logos.com/product/3943/neither-jew-nor-greek-constructing-early-christianity along side of it...

I have that too but have not read it. Now it's on my to-read list too. Have you read this? Thoughts?

I have it and have read sections of it. Overall, Judith Lieu seems more careful to let those centuries speak THEIR stories, while the other is more from the perspective of how the early centuries inform OUR story. But since I have only read sections, I cannot speak to her main argument.
