Hello all...

I'm not sure if this the correct forum to post this question but if not please point me to the correct location....

I have a lot of highlights in 1 particular Bible and was wondering if it is possible to transfer them to another Bible without having to go through verse by verse and do it manually 1 at a time?

That would take hours....and I would love to have my highlights in several different Bibles so that when I want to read from a particular version I don't have to have 2 versions open at the same time.....I find having 2 or more open at a time useful at times but it can also be annoying at other times.

Hi Carl - and welcome to the forums.

I'm afraid that you can't transfer / share highlights between different Bibles in an automatic way.

They would need to be recreated manually.

One of the challenges here is that different versions have different versification schemes and managing that automatically could be an issue.

To tag team with Graham a little bit...

Notes can be attached to a text in two ways. The first is by "reference." When a note is attached to a reference, the note appears in any and all versified resources at that reference point. For example: A note attached to "John 3:16" would appear in all bibles, commentaries, and miscellaneous resources which are tagged by versification.

The second way that a note can be attached to a text is by "selection." Highlighting notes are notes of "selection" by definition. When you create a highlight, you select a portion of the text. It can be an entire verse, but it can also be a word, clause, or even a single character. This is why highlights don't appear in multiple translations.

There are other schemes which could potentially be utilized... but those schemes are not currently enabled in Logos. For example:

Logos could allow users to attach highlights to a lemma. This might work for some users with particular needs, but wouldn't be great for reading. For example, if this sentence were translated and written in several different ways, the various translations schemes might not be contiguous. Perhaps all the bold words would have been together in one translation, but in this one they aren't.
Logos could allow highlights to be attached to the reference. At first glance, this sounds good. I would be opposed to this being the default behavior, however. I don't care about the reference, I care about the selection. Furthermore, a highlight attached to "John 3:16" could mean 4-5 pages of a commentary being one solid highlight! I'm sure that problem can be solved easily enough, but its still funny to think about. The bigger issue here is that highlights attached to a reference would always and only include highlighting the ENTIRE verse or passage...

One last issue, perhaps the biggest one... Large note files cause the apps trouble. Each year I do a M'Chenney reading plan which takes me through the entire bible. I start the year with a blank note file, but by the end of the year highlights take about 25 seconds to appear in my reading plan translation. I really don't want to have that hassle in ALL of my bibles! As it is now, I delete the reading plan note file on December 31 and start with a fresh one. I am looking forward to the end of the month. Thanks Graham..... I sort of figured that would be the case....but it never hurts to ask.... Guess I'll just have to open both Bibles when I venture out of my default Bible.... It's not that big of a deal.....besides it will let me compare.....
