What are circles with dates ?

When I filter for downloaded titles (local:) I see to the right of every entry a gray circle with a date in the middle and some blue lines around the circles. My guess is that the date is the last time this resource was opened but what are the blue lines indicating?
Just curious...

The blue lines indicate how far you are through the resource.

If that were the case would there not just be one line indicating progress? When I'm just reading through a book, why are there multiple blue lines in varying degrees of thickness ???

The lines show exactly which bits you have read, and which you have skipped over. So if you read every page, you should see a solid blue line. If you jump about a lot (as you often would in a Bible or a dictionary), you'll see lots of little blue lines all over the place.

It must only track what you read on the iPad because most books I read on multiple platforms and I definitely do not see a solid blue circle ....
Thanks for the info .... much appreciated ...
