Highlighting in a Floating Window (Mac)

I often like to read books in my laptop in a floating window, but as far as I can tell there is no way to highlight while a book is in a floating window. Is this true, or am I missing some trick? If this can't be done, I'd like to suggest that it be an added feature for future updates!
Thanks!

Running on Windows it seems to work ok.
- If I have the Highlighting panel open in my main window, I can select a portion of text in a resource in the floating window, go to the main panel and click the required highlighting and it appears
- I can do the same if I move the highlighting panel to the floating window
- I can also use highlight shortcuts to highlight in a floating window (http://wiki.logos.com/Highlighting#Shortcut_keys)
What do you get when you try any of these?

I'm not on my Mac right now, but it has always worked for me in the past. Check out Graham's link to the wiki for keyboard shortcuts.

Excellent, Graham! All three of those solutions work! Thanks for your help. Had no idea about the shortcut feature! That's better than bringing up the panel for me even when I'm not using the floating panel! Thanks so much for your help.
