Help! New Logos User

This is my first post on here, so I apologize if this isn't the right place to ask this question. I am a brand new Logos user, so any help you can provide would be great! I have two main questions right now:

1) When I logged in this morning to study, my library began to index again. This took almost an hour. I though this was just a one-time thing. It already indexed once when I first installed the software. Anyone know why it had to index again, and should I expect this to occur frequently?

2) My other question has to do with the homepage. When I log in, I see some pictures on my homepage that I would like to save as my desktop picture or use in PowerPoint slides. Some of the pictures give me the option to click on and save as a picture, but others do not. The ones I see as good banners are not allowing me to save them to my computer. Can someone help me with this? If I'm not being clear, I'll try my best to clarify.

The software updates its index after each new or updated purchase is downloaded to ensure that searches etc stay valid. Have you recently purchased some new resources?

Your response helped me a lot! I did not purchase anything new. I called customer support and they told me that it may not have all indexed at first and is just now catching up... he said if it does it again to call back.

I found the banners on the link you provided...thank you so much!

Graham effectively answered your questions, so I won't re-hash those, but I thought I might possibly be able to add a little clarity to the indexing issue.

Logos 5 will re-index every time something changes, whether that is a new resource you ordered, or if there is an update or a correction made to a resource you already have, or if there is an update to the software by Logos.

If you log in every day, you won't see the re-indexing each time. But if you only log in a couple times a week, or if you frequently buy new resources (or claim the free ones that are often offered) you might see a download and re-index almost every time you open the software. This can be frustrating, and the frustration has been a topic on these forums in the past.

One way to minimize the frustrations is to change your downloading/updating from automatic to manual. That way, you can choose when to accept your downloads and subsequent re-indexing. This is the option I've chosen. Since Logos has added a bar at the top of the software to indicate waiting downloads, this works pretty well for me.

To add a very little to Graham & Doc's comments...

My guess is that your system did not finish it's first index. An hour long index is rare, except when you purchase large amounts of resources.

Indexing does happen frequently... Especially when you acquire new resources regularly (I.e. Freebies via Vyrso). Resources are also updated (I.e. Typos & additional tagging) continually. The larger your library, the more frequent updates will be.

An hour long index is rare

That would certainly depend on the computer, and the number of other programs open. For me it's generally several hours, even with only a few resources.

I am not sure if you are on Windows or Mac OS, but in Windows every time your Logos library indexes you will have an icon in the system tray (by the clock) and a bar at the top of your Logos window indicating that Logos is indexing. Both of those places give you an option to pause the indexing process for 4 hours (you can resume it at any time).

What depends on indexing is any kind of search you do within Logos. However, with is paused or stopped yo are still able to read the Bible and all of your purchased resources, take notes, etc.

You can also pause indexing in Logos for MAC.
