Question concerning the layout menu

When we click on the menu item layout, a window appears that lists all of our layouts. On the left side of this menu item is all of our saved named layouts.

I am wondering if there is a way that we can sort this list. L5 is listing some of my Year A layouts, than some of my Year B layouts, and then some of my Year C layouts, and then more of my Year A layouts. In the mist of my Year A, B, and C layouts, other layouts are saved. Here are some screen shots to show you want I am talking about.

How odd! I've never seen that list show anything other than alphabetic order.

The second screenshot looks like it's ignoring the 'A -' part, and sorting on the first 'real' word, but the first clearly isn't doing the same. And it doesn't look like you've accidentally put in an extra space somewhere, or a longer dash, or something else of that nature that might confuse things.

Must be a bug.

Ditto for me, and yet I just looked at mine and it's got one out of order too. And in my case, it's the same issue: ignoring the 'A -' and sorting on the first 'real' word, like what Tom was seeing.

I think what's happening is the sort algorithm is the same as that used for sorting resource titles in the Library, which ignores leading articles (A, An, The, La, and other foreign language ones).

So the ones with 'C -' in front of them sort under 'C' since 'C' isn't an article (C followed by a space comes before Christmas). But the ones with 'A -' in front of them sort with the following word.

You can work around this by renaming them 'Year A - ..." and 'Year C - ..." and so on.

I'm not sure it would really be considered a bug, but perhaps in some future version Logos might consider adding a feature to allow us to drag the order of items in that menu to override any automatic sort order.

After taking a closer look, it is my year a layouts that are all over the place. my year b and year c are all together.

FYI... Putting yr in front of all my layouts is a pain in the back side (that is just below the lower part of my back).

Experiment! Perhaps A* or A. or something like that is enough to fool the algorithm. Then you wouldn't have to change the B's and C's.

Thanks for this good tip, and I wished I had read this post before renaming my layouts. [:(] I still might rename them using the period instead of yr. This will save me several characters spaces in the name.
