Is there a way to change the format of the verse numbering (when copying a verse, using a custom style) so that it uses a period instead of a colon, e.g., instead of Exodus 4:2, using Exodus 4.2?

Short answer: no that's not possible, unfortunately.

Long answer: The format is linked to the current language, so English uses a colon, whilst Spanish uses a period, and German a comma. Of course, if you change the language, then the name of the book also changes, so that doesn't really help!
