Logos 4.0.3 EXTREMELY slow responsiveness

Everything about the responsiveness of the app is REALLY slow for me:

Swipe to scroll the library...20-30 seconds later it scrolls
Go to home screen...it starts, hangs, for 45+ seconds, and then finally goes to home
I've had it hang 45-degrees through a rotation for 1-2 minutes before finally finishing
Even pressing the home button to return to iOS home hangs the app for 1-2 minutes before responding
About the only thing in the app that doesn't exhibit this behavior is page turns (at least on downloaded books, I haven't tried with non-downloaded books)

I've rebooted the iPad, I've deleted and re-installed the app, and I just finished doing a full wipe of the iPad hoping to resolve the problem, but it still does exactly the same thing. I don't have any of these problems on my iPhone. I also don't have any other iPad apps that are exhibiting any kind of similar behavior.

Help! :-(

How many downloaded resources do you have? I am on an iPad 3 also (16 GB wifi) with just over 100 downloaded resources and have no issues.

I do have something for you to try... But I think it's a long shot. (I think a reinstall would have taken care of any issues, and certainly a wipe of the device).

From the home page, type rebuild index (cap sensitive) and wait 5 minutes or so without letting the app being closed or iPad turning off.

I concur... but what makes his situation interesting is that his problem is also with the library itself!

Sorry, I was out of town last night and just got back. I tried the rebuild index command without any change in result, but in playing around some more, I found that my initial description may have been too broad.

It seems that ALL my problems occur within the library. When using the app, I'm usually either in a book or in the library...hence my initial feeling that everything except reading was having responsiveness issues. I also thought the issues extended to the home screen because going from library to home has issues. So here is my revised list of issues, with revisions in italics:

Tapping library from any other part of the app causes the app to hang for at least 30-45 seconds before finally displaying the library

Other areas of the app work perfectly fine: reading a book is responsive, the home screen is responsive, passage guide is responsive, etc

I have no more than 20-25 books downloaded if that makes any difference. Also, in light of the new information, I don't think notes/highlights are related, but FWIW, my primary Bible doesn't have any notes or highlights, nor do the other resources that are currently downloaded.

Hi Ron,

I just acquired an iPad first generation with 64 GB and IOS 5. I bought it specifically for reading from the Logos and Vyrso apps. I intended to download my complete library into each app so that I would not need to be wifi connected.

I started the process with an initialized iPad. My library has just over 1,000 books to download. I have lots of notes files and lots of highlights.

I noticed that prior to downloading both apps were very unstable. They were slow for library access as well as reading once a book was delivered. The "synchronizing" icon was constantly twirling unless I was in reading mode. The library organization was incomplete in the sense that even though I had the view sorted by "recent" a lot of recently viewed books had not bubbled up on the list. This initial activity was on a slower network.

Once I got to my home network things were more stable. However, for the first dozen books of download I experienced lots of crashes for both Vyrso and Logos. The crashes would typically occur when I tapped the icon to download the next book. After about a dozen books and half a dozen crashes the app activity smoothed out. I then initiated a full download. This caused several more crashes and the full download request did not seem to be remembered between crashes until maybe 4 crashes had occurred. By this time I noticed that most of my "recent" books; i.e., the last 6 months of reading had been sorted to the front of the library list. I set Logos on Monday night and Vyrso on Tuesday night. They both exhibited the same stalls and crashes.

I really think that a weak internet connection would have made this totally intolerable. As it was, it seemed that the initial library view sort and the downloading of the notes and reading lists was causing a lot of stalls and crashes. Again, once all my notes files appeared, then things really smoothed out.

By "smoothed out", I mean that I could actually monitor the full download by scrolling around on the library list and even visit individual books to see if they were currently downloading or installing. Once things got rolling the full download completed in just over 2 hours for just under 10GB of data in each library.

I think I saved myself some grief by changing the iPad to not lock the screen. I did this on the second day because I think some crashes occurred when the screen saver kicked in.

I haven't had much stick time with either app since the download completed, but the initial use of Logos looked a lot better.

I have no idea if the library view is remembered from one day to the next if you don't perform a download. I have not experienced delays like this on my other iPad 1 where I just download fewer than a dozen books at a time. The library view had taken some time to refresh, but I never experienced so many crashes. Again, I don't have a lot of experience with this recent update on my older, smaller iPad.

BTW: The prior versions of the app allowed you to set columns and synchronization between windows. Does those controls exist somewhere?

There's a bug related to the reading progress indicators - the issue has already been fixed internally and made it into the beta version released yesterday.

Ron, I don't know if you solved the issue, but have you checked how many apps are opened at the same time? Have you check how much space you have available in the app? At one time I found that something was hugging space in my iPad and did not know what, Although I didn't have any issues I ended up resetting the whole iPad and starting from scratch.

It should not run slow at all as the new app runs smoother and faster than the previous one. I have a iPad 3 with 32GB. So it has to be some conflict somewhere that is messing up the iPad or the iPad is going bad.

I would suggest to call support so you get it solved faster.
