Searchinging is cumbersome

I am finding the searching facility so cumbersome. When I do a search every book in the library seems to open. Am I missing some way of refining the search? For such an extensive and expensive  resource it is not doing what I basically need the most. Can anyone advise?

Presumably you are seeing this in a "Basic search" which - by default - searches every resource you have in your library. You can find more information on this - and how to limit the books that are searched using collections - at http://wiki.logos.com/Basic_Search

I'd also suggest you look at the video tutorial (#4) on searching available on that page. It was developed for Logos 4 but the basic principles still apply in Logos 5.

More information on creating collections - which the article refers to - can be found at http://wiki.logos.com/Collections

Can you expand on exactly what you are trying to do and, hopefully, we can provide some more specific advice?
