What would happen if.......

I already own the Hermeneia Upgrade (3 Vols.), but it shows that I don't own it on the product page. This really bothers my psyche. What would happen if I ordered it? Would it actually charge me? I put it in my cart and it still shows full price, so I am just curious.

i just checked and I own it but it also shows up as if I did not own it. I always check my library I before making a purchase if I I have any doubt.

Just when we thought we could count on those gray buttons on the Logos site to indicate resources we already own, it appears that we had better go back to checking our libraries before every purchase!

Every Hermeneia upgrade, the Hermeneia NT and OT sets, and the Hermeneia & Continental Commentary set all appear as eligible for me to buy (Again).

Has anybody been intrigued enough to go ahead and purchase an upgrade or set, that you already own, just to see what happens? It would be an expensive experiment, but your fellow forum members would admire your commitment to researching this apparent system glitch. [8-|]

I can understand when it may be a resource contained in a base package (sometimes you don't know you have it), but when you purchase an important commentary as Hermeneia or NICOT/NT and you forget you have it, then I don't think there's a problem with Logos - the problem is with you! LOL...impulse buying, anyone? [:P] As stated in other threads, "The syndrome of buying just for the sake of having it" and you never really read it or use it; hence, you forget you have it and it's easier to get confused and buy it again if Logos doesn't really show you own it. Oh boy! How long, how long? LOL [A]

DAL, you raise an interesting point. I doubt if anybody forgets owning the Hermeneia or NICOT/NT or similar sets, but upgrade/update volumes are another story.

Interesting tests of the "impulse buying" and "never really read or use it" syndromes you mentioned might be to see if we could buy our base packages and/or favorite bible translations a second time. [:)]

Every time I buy something new to add to my library, if I already own it then Logos will not show me as anything being placed in my cart.

That is much better to have happen than what happened at my online bookstore once so far. I dropped two courses last term and one other time before that. So when I was ready to take the courses again I checked at the bookstore to see if I had to order any more books and it said yes to over $100 worth of books for both classes. Then when they came I immediately saw the books that I had purchased to be the ones that I already have for classes. So then the nearest post offices are like almost seven to eight miles away that I would have to ride my bicycle to get too. So I got suckered by this once before and am glad that Logos keeps track of things for me better than that college bookstore. All because I don't have that much time to go back and review my Library after seeing it in a book or bundle that I want but, I am sure going to check some of the newer books that I may order, just to make sure I am not paying twice, as much as needed.

That's not what it looks like for me. Upgrade 3 is wrong, but the others are correct.

Are you sure you own all the upgrades? Because if you don't, the rest is correct. When they merge an upgrade into the larger sets, one of the effects is that a grey button may turn coloured again, since you no longer own the full set. The positive side of it is that dynamic pricing tends to make commentary upgrades cheaper than the prepub price, especially if you wait until there is also a sale.

Same with you, Matthew: are you sure you haven't missed some prepub volume that has recently been added to the full set?

Of course the frustrating part is simply not knowing for sure. I think a good practice would be to take any upgrade that is not greyed out and actually search your library just to be sure you own it - that is if you want to keep the series updated.

I agree with all that has been said. I guess for me, it is just a matter of something that should work a certain way but doesn't. I have OCD, so it bothers me to an extent because it is not as it should be, but it is not that big of a deal. I knew right away that I owned it (in the case of the upgrade), but then my mind obsesses over the simple fact that it SAYS I don't own it. It similarly bothers me that resources that I ordered early on through Logos over the phone, like WBC, do not show up on my account under my orders page even though I own them, and they are grayed out on the product page.

If these are the worse things that ever happen, then I think everything will be ok. [H]
