No, and in my opinion, this is a significant weakness.

Yes and no. Anyone who values privacy is pleased.

Just give the option to opt out.

Good point, Alabama. Could we have your cell number, by the way? [;)]

Steve - you could create a forum post with the name of the person you are trying to contact in the subject, then include a message with a somewhat modified e-mail address
E.G. myname at server dot com
so that you can be contacted.

No doubt there are some celebrities using this forum, whose real names are cautiously hidden behind pseudonyms.

Yes, and for the rest of us who are absolute nobodys we just use our real names. [:)]Kendall Sholtess said:No doubt there are some celebrities using this forum, whose real names are cautiously hidden behind pseudonyms.

I most definitely value privacy, and I'm not pleased! In fact, it's precisely because I value privacy that I'm not pleased.

And this illustrates just that. I don't want a forum thread dedicated to contacting me, and I most definitely don't want to give out my e-mail in order to contact someone else. I want it done discretly and privately in the background.

I must confess that my response was more in response to alabama's "opt out". I agree with you that people never choose "opt in" even though I still think that would be better than nothing. Personally I think it should be there in the background as is the case in many other forums.
