Example of how Search can be much better

I decided to start posting examples of where Search just doesn't handle the real world of my needs, in the hopes more examples may help Logos to improve it in the future.

In my study I recalled St. Paul saying "Christ became sin"....

I tried a Bible search with match all word forms: Christ became sin - no matches

I did a Bible search for: Christ sin. It found 40 verses, but nothing matching what I was looking for.

I tried "Became sin" (with quotes) - 1 match in OT.

So I went to Google, typed "Christ became sin" (with quotes), and voila- found it right away. 2 Cor 5:21 "For our sake he (God the Father) made him (Christ) to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. "

I'm glad not only my memory is bad.... since you now know that the quote you recalled actually is not in the bible (well, at least not in typical translations).

Hm. the very fuzzy way Google searches helps here. It looks like this:

some of the hits (which come from all over the place) will refer 2 Cor 5:21.

But you are comparing apples to oranges here, since google searches the whole "www-library" and not only bibles. Let Logos have a go:

at least it's not worse than Google. BUT logos can do more. Both Google and the library search count on the fact that someone rephrased Paul's sentence as you recalled. But Logos can be precise here:

Just curious what the fuzzy search would find in Libronix (used NRSV, YLT, LEB). Of course Libronix doesn't have access to referents.

I just maybe dreaming, but Don seems to be wanting Logos to improve the search?

And what I meant to show is that with the clause search (person:Jesus will find Christ even if he is just called "him" in the sentence), some of the improvement is already there. Not all of it, I admit: I had to guess lemma hamartia for sin, since this is no place or thing.

You're faster than me. But I agree with Don that 'search' needs work. It's the heart of much of Logos 'overhead' (indexing, updates, and so forth).

Making it 'smart' (and copyable like Libronix) I'd think would be well within Logos' strategic vision (Noet, etc). Simply finding a lot of hits probably isn't a good long-term strategy.

It is more complicated than Libronix; which also allowed more advanced techniques for those who needed it. Clause search still needs work e.g. why can't we specify person:Jesus object:sin?

I also agree with the OP in that I frequently find what I need via Google far more easily and quickly than I do within Logos. The list of things that Logos does well is long... but yeah, a little fuzzier query engine work on our hard earned indices would be beautiful.
