Indexing L4 Mac OS

Love the product and I am certain that the bugs will all be worked out sooner or later. I'd like it sooner . . . of course. Big Smile

I can't get the program to stop indexing. I have been in contact with Tech people. I checked the amount of free space on the computer - 50G free.

I leave the program open while indexing.

I also have Logos 3 installed and have tried leaving that open as well.

Bottom line is that it re-indexes every time I start the program.

Am I alone here and if not - has anyone else conquered this?

I think that it may not be starting again but continuing where it left off. :-)

People have reported the indexing system continuing for days.

Strangely my installation only took a few hours to index but I have relatively few resources.

Welcome to the forum!

The indexing takes a long, long time. Can you hover your mouse over the blue icon in the task bar and find out how much time it has left to index? (A message should pop up when you hover your mouse over it)

Donovan, aren't the indexes based on how many, and what kinds of resources a person has. For example, I downloaded a MacArthur study guide this morning and the indexing took about 5min. Then, I ordered and downloaded the Tyndale Bible Dictionary and it took longer, about 15 min. or so. Isn't indexing the process of cross referencing all of the words and passages with all of the other resource books in a collection? If so, it makes sense that it takes a while.

Maybe a clearer explanation of what is happening during the indexing process might be helpful to some of the folks who continually bring this up?

You are correct. It is dependent on how many resources you have and also the configuration of your computer. The initial indexing for me with a 2.8ghz MBP, 4gb ram takes between six and seven hours. I have the Plantinum collection along with some other resources that I have added over the year. If I am only adding one resource or merging indexes, it is much shorter.

Does indexing ever complete? Or are you logging out/shutting down your computer before it can complete? If it never finishes once, it will continually try to index until it is able to complete once.

There are a few other issues that could be going on as well. The best way for us to diagnose the issue is for you to post your logs (see the instructions in my forum signature).

Hey Cameron - the Logos icon at the top of the screen disappears after the indexing seems to have completed indexing. I watch the "time estimated" decrease and then it seems to have completed - it remains off until I reboot the computer. None of the search features work though, which indicates to me that the indexing has not completed.

I have the previous version Logos 3 installed and that works just fine.

Just finished another restart, and re-indexing - it took about 3 hours. The icon at the top of the window disappears and it seems to be done indexing. The search feature does not work. I just did a search for "grace" in the NIV and there are no results returned . . . perhaps i am searching the Pharisee version . . . kidding. Anyway I will try closing the program ???? and then reboot? Is there any way to determine that indexing has completed other than the disappearance of the indexing/downloading Logos icon?

There are instructions (including a video tutorial) for posting logs in the forum post that is linked in both Joe's and my signature. Specifically, it's item #6 in the FAQ linked in my signature. Also, I heartily recommend reading the entire FAQ, since it really does answer the most frequently asked common questions.
