What search strings do I have to type to find the books which gives list of Jesus quoted/used/acknowledge the OT?

Searching in Google is a breeze, but searching in Logos is kinda complicated for me.. :(

I want to learn to search in Logos better with the books I have

Thank you

I have also had many times when I've resorted to a Google search.

Of course there are many ways to attempt to search this topic. Here are a few I tried:

Jesus WITHIN 2 WORDS "Old Testament" gave some good results including some specific articles on the topic.

I tried a simple search - "Jesus quoting the old Testament" and it was somewhat helpful also giving results for similar words like quote, quoted etc. So it didn't have to be an exact match.

You may want to try this.

You can download these highlights https://faithlife.com/ot-quotes-in-nt/documents. You will have to join the group in order to access the intertexuality file by Kevin Baker. Once it is installed into your Logos it will show up as visual filter in your preferred bible. I would then do a simple bible search for "Jesus". You can then scroll through the gospels in your bible and see where the two highlights coincide. Might be a place to start looking.

Is there a way to search crossreferences in a particular resource, such as the ESV? I might need to search the wiki...

I am guessing that doing that for the gospels, and filtering for the OT will give you pretty close to what you want. You will get Matthew's quotations amongst others in such a search, so you might need to filter that out.

The big flaw with this method is that it is dependent on the editors of the ESV with regard to allusions and so on.

I thought I had found a clever way, but it appears that the search filter ot-quote:* doesn't work in the NT. [:(] My hope was to do something like ot-quote:* while doing a Bible search on the Words of Jesus.

Anyway, it looks like this has been covered before. Take a look at this thread: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/42296.aspx

Fredc, Mark B & KS4J have a good interchange on the bottom of the ways they found the set of verses you're looking for.

Don't forget that merging passage lists OT quotes and Words of Jesus for passages on both lists is conceptually a quick way to the result you want.

Hi Lonnie, are there instructions somewhere on how to do this? I'e got the pallette in Logos, and tried creating a VF, but not having much luck.

Couldn't live without this resource. It has all the obvious Old Testament quotations and the more subtle allusions found in the New Testament isolated, cataloged, and commented on:

"As any translator will attest, a literal translation is no translation at all."

    Hi David

If you have downloaded the Intertexuality file, it should show up in your documents as a note file. Open your bible and in the visual filters part of the bible (the three colored circles) open it up and the "Intertexuality:verses" should be there. Click the box next to it to make sure it is on. You should be ready to go to run your bible search for "Jesus" which will be highlighted in your bible as you scroll down through the gospels.
