How Do I Make This ?

Just beginning to learn photoshop and Illustrator from online tutorials.I'm a noob to this all but I recently got copies of these programs.. How would you begin making something like this image below? Just the dark area and not the side tabs. Or point me to a tutorial please.

My advice: since this is a Logos forum, you should take your photoshop/illustrator question to a photoshop or illustrator forum.
