Signing in and out
Hi
A little patience please, I'm just getting acquainted with Logos.
One of the first issues I've encountered is the signing in/out process. I saw that it was discussed for Logos 4 but has this been reviewed for Logos 5? Essentially, what it comes down to is how do I sign out of my account and how to not have Logos sign in automatically?

Robert, welcome to the forums!
When you hold the Ctrl key during stratup of Logos, it won't sign in automatically but present the Login screen. But you don't sign out - why would you? The library and everything is tied to your user.

Sign-in is the same for Logos 5 (see previous reply). But you do not have to sign-out other than quitting/exiting Logos as with any other application. Perhaps you would explain what you mean by sign-out.

Logos 5 will always sign in automatically. Can you explain why you don't want it to? If we know what you're trying to accomplish, we may be able to find a suitable workaround.

I have the desktop installed at home and in the office so anyone who uses my computer (home or office) has access to my account. A major violation of my privacy.

I suspect that most users whose computer is for multiple use set up different user identities on their PC if for no other reason than to keep personal settings separate. For example my wife and I set up MSWord differently in our own separate user identities. Perhaps it is my work training where it was a potentially a discipline matter to leave your PC without logging out.
To be honest, I would consider it a BIG step forward to separate viewing my account from using Logos. I still consider it a very silly and ill-advised design feature. It does greatly bug me so in that matter you are not the only one who resents the lack of privacy. I really do not want a friend seeing how much I have spent on Logos!

I would use separate system-level (Windows or OS X) accounts for other users in that case. Just lock your account when you're not around (or log out of it). Is this not an option?

Todd, private accounts are not an option. The work computers are wide open by policy ie no private accounts allowed.

Yet you are allowed to install Logos!? Are you restricted to one physical computer? Do you have to sign-in to work at another computer?
Is the home computer also a work computer e.g. a laptop owned by the company?

Really? I wouldn't put any private or personal data on a computer set up like that, including Logos. Clearly I don't know the details, but your work policy sounds like a security risk to me. In your case, I would recommend you access your library through the web using http://biblia.com or http://bible.faithlife.com.
Another option would be to use remote desktop control software, like LogMeIn, to connect to your home computer while at work, and use the copy installed at home from your computer at work. Then you can just log out of remote connection when you are done.

Biblia.com and faithlife look ok for reading but my notes don't seem to be accessible.
As for security well, I wasn't expecting that once logged in to Logos I would be logged in forever. Regardless of where the computer might be, even at home, the kids might decide to check out dad's computer.

I have been involved with computers and computer programming for 50 years. No matter how much I trusted my kids I would never, ever give them open access to my computer. It is not that I have unsuitable or adult material on my computer!! It is simply that I trust no one (other than my wife) to be as careful about what sites I visit or what emails I open as I am. Sooner or later one would innocently open an attachment or follow a link to a web site that has been compromised and the computer get taken over. This is not paranoia but life in 2014. NO virus checker can protect against all user activity and any that claims it can, should be avoided. The current plague of 'ramsom ware' is only one example. There is faith and there is presumption. Kids and open computers is presumption!!
