I'm not talking about being able to edit your posts after you post them. Allowing us to do that would be bad, because there'd be discontinuities in the conversation if someone went back to their original post and changed it, confusing readers as to how such a conversation was produced in the topic.

I'm talking about deleting posts. We ought to be able to delete our own topics (if no one has posted in them) and delete our own (non topic-creating) posts at any time. If we just have this feature, we'll be able to take back mistakes without creating any discontinuities or confusion in the conversation.

You can already edit or delete your own posts up to ten hours after posting.  Deleting is only posible so long as no one has replied to your post.

I have non-topic-creating posts less than 10 hours old that no one has replied to that provide no option of deleting them. Here's a picture of such a post from about an hour ago:

I'm not sure, since I've never deleted a post (mine should all be engraved in stone anyway), but go into edit and see if you can do it from there.

Under More (beside Reply) options include both edit and delete.

Click on the "More" button.  You should find the option to delete there.

Well they must have a Catholic edition of the forums and a Protestant edition, because I don't have it as an option under "More". However, if you click on your name you can see some of your post history and it looks like you can delete it from there.

[Edit: Ah, that's weird, I DO have the delete option with this post... the "ten hours," George, must be more like ten minutes.]

    I'm guessing it's 10 minutes rather than 10 hours.

When you failed to find "Delete" under the "More" button, were you looking at one of YOUR OWN posts?  It won't appear for someone else's posts.

As I stated to John, it only applies to your own posts so be sure you are looking at your posts and not someone else's.

Of course... why would I think I could delete someone elses post [8-|]. Look at one of your earlier posts in this thread and see if you can still delete it. As I said, I could see that option right after I posted a response, but now I can no longer see that option under the exact same post that I could see it under a while ago.

Looking back at some of my earlier posts, I note that "Delete" does not appear.  I rather suppose that it does not appear because someone has replied to it.  I can still edit it.  In fact, if I want to edit it so that it says nothing more than "Deleted", I can do that.

I don't believe you can delete a post after someone has responded to it.

Are you signed in.  Does your user name appear at the top of the forum.  On a couple of occasions I managed to start using the forums without logging in.  If I am not logged in, I cannot delete my posts.
