So Confused...

As I study Learn to Use Hebrew in video 6, Gender Fem Nouns, I try to setup similar visual filter. I made it this way:

but I see the results different from Logos video.

and here are results from my Bible:

I see "hands, soul, eyes, spirit" are missing. If I go to the next chapter, I see other words not highlighted. I know that Logos changed morphology but is this mean that "hands, soul, eyes, spirit" are not fem noun anymore? or what?

How does Logos morphology works. I see same confusing results from other examples from video. Many parts of the video seem to be useless and make me more confused. Which morphology is right one in this case: Andersen or Logos?

How this filter could be useful to me if in the next release Logos would come again with a different morphology, would I have to buy a new video to use it? Very confused...

As you can see from the interlinear, there is no gender assigned to "ear" hence it is not selected.

Both or none - the coding of morphology is always tied to a particular linguistic theory. Some coding is quite stable across theories, some is variable. Some theories appear to be better than others but most people stick with what they initially learned - it's not a matter of right/wrong but better/worse at explanation of the language's behavior.

The filter will continue to show feminine nouns - the question is how the linguistic theory defines feminine nouns.

No, if the change is so significant that Logos deems it necessary to reshoot the video, your copy should be updated automatically. However, as the principles are the same what you learned in the videos apply regardless of the linguist theory you or Logos choose to employ.

Thank You MJ Smith so much. It is very helpful. I wish on the video it would be explained about linguistic theories because I dont know the Hebrew/Greek and thats why I bought video...

It seems to have omitted the words that do not have the feminine morpheme. Yes the words that appear in pairs are feminine (ear, hand). Spirit/ wind is also feminine.

MJ gave you a very competent answer (she's a trained linguist after all) to the background of this. I personally have no formal training at all about that and can't read any word in Hebrew. However, from a purely practical standpoint I always wonder why this change in morphology of some Logos bibles leaves you guys so alone in the dark?

If some of the video's teachings require AFAT morphology to run, then why don't just use it in another resource? With Logos you can still add the version of your choice in parallel.

Actually I tend to think that the deeper OL analytics tools should be run against the OL text anyway and not against the - hidden from display - RI of an English version. What purpose would it serve to know that ESV at a certain position tries to translate a word that's a feminine noun in the original? The concept of grammatical gender is complex and language-specific and thus has meaning for the Hebrew text only.
