CPU performance seems to constantly spike

I just upgraded from 3 to 4a, and the interface changes are phenomenal. Really, it's just amazing. I love the layout and the workflow, both of which are radically different. One of the things that made Logos 3 almost unusable for me was the difficulty in finding what I wanted amidst a large pile of slow-to-find resources. However, Logos4 is also very slow. In particular, the CPU spikes whenever I go from the home screen to another screen (like clicking on the links from the home page) or when searching, etc.

I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop with about 47GB free on the harddrive, 3GB RAM, and an Intel Core2 Duo T5750 CPU (2.00 GHz, dual core). I am running Windows 7 Professional 64bit. I know you guys are continuously working to improve the product and complete the feature-set for Logos4, but I would just like to cast my vote for better performance.

hmm....you have almost exactly the same set up that I had before my current lap top and it was fast.

When you say it's slow..do you mean "slow to open windows" or "slow when doing a basic search" or "slow when scrolling"

what symptoms are you describing?

Also, what video card are you running?

Is it sharing part of that 3gb of ram?

Agreed. I have another thread where I am discussing moving to a quad core to make better use of this product. But that's not going to help on my laptop. It has a 2.2GHz AMD Turion X2, 3 GB ram, 200GB of free hd space and Win 7. L4 does work better for me since I turned tablet input services off and clicked "Run as administrator" in the compatibility settings. You might try that. You'll find that you like the features of L4 much more than L3 (at least most of us did) after a couple of weeks of use. But the slowness can be a bit aggrevating at times. Try the suggestions above and let us know if it helps.

I'm losing my mind. It's been slow a couple of days, including this morning, so I posted on the forums. To answer Robert's question, I start it up again, and it's not spiking. So does L4 know when you post about it's performance and then speed up? Sheesh

Seriously, though, the speed is (literally) suddenly better when switching between screens. It's still slow when searching, like when you do a passage guide. I saw all these blogs about 1-2 second searches because everything was indexed, but the performance there is only slightly better.

Anyway, yes, the RAM is shared with video, but I haven't tried the run-as-admin yet, but am going to momentarily.

right click the icon and choose properties.

Uncheck the fancy stuff:

Then go to the run box and type:

services.msc

and disable "tablet pc" services.

that's what seems to work to help speed logos up.

ALSO!

Someone on these forums noted a weird thing. As you said...you fire logos up...it's slow....

you fire it up again...it's fast.....

He said he just fires it up until it's fast...2 or 3 tries....

You might think about that...

I'm not sure that run-as-admin sped it up any, but the performance is improved (apparently from just posting to the forum). Maybe after it has been launched a couple of times it caches something? I think I'll reboot and see if the performance drops again.

So I've rebooted and it seems faster than before. No idea what the difference is. I did notice that the passage guide is no longer searching all resource categories at once. I *think* this is a change, but I'm sure you can confirm. In L3, the passage guide came up immediately without searching anything if the categories were collapsed. Searching was done when you actually expanded a category. That seems to be what I am observing now, however, I thought that earlier (before the 4.0a update?) that the passage guide searched all the categories even when they were closed. Opening the categories instantly showed you the results. But as I said, what I currently see in 4.0a is the L3 behavior of not searching until a category is expanded.

okey doke. I've done all those things except the run-as-admin because it's so annoying when it starts up. I think what has helped the most is the observation that starting/closing/starting/closing/starting logos seems to speed it up.

I was kinda hoping that indexing would speed up the passage guide results, but perhaps that will improve in the future.

have you made a custom Passage guide?

go to: Guide "make a custom passage guide" and only choose the sections that you want to appear..

that REALLY helps speed things up
