More problems with resources

I am continuing to see different anomalies in how resources are updated on one's system. Here is the latest thing I have experienced:
I received my CD updates to Bibliotheca Sacra and TJL 12 in the mail. I also bought one of the small dictionary resources from Logos online, and downloaded it.
On my laptop (which has ver 3 and 4 Logos), I installed both CDs, unlocked, went into ver 3 and synchronized licenses, backed up my license file, and verified the number of resources that were installed via Location Manager. I then went into ver 4, did an Update Resources, let it do its thing of updating and indexing through restarts, and everything appeared fine. Note, I use ver 3. Location Manager to tell me how many resources were added to my system, I use this to check my version 4 system. I suggest you do the same!
So then I went to my desktop which just runs ver 4. I did an update resources, nothing was found. I waited about 10 minutes and tried again, nothing was found. Later, hour or two, I did another update resources, and it pulled down resources. I then used my file compare utility (which I highly recommend for helping with this kind of exercise), and about 40 of the CD files were not present!
So then I copied the missing resources to a folder, and did a Scan of that folder. Not all were brought in still! All but 8 files were now available on my desktop. I suspect this is what is happening to some users here who report different numbers of resources on different computers. I then did a second Scan, and it got the last 8 resources, so now both version 4 installations had all the resources.
One last weirdness. Using my file compare utility, the small dictionary resource I got, was reported as different on the two machines! The laptop resource was downloaded from the ftp site, and the desktop version came down through an Update. Upon examination I determined that the files themselves were identical, but the date/timestamp was different. So a download from logos.com or ftp to purchase a file, and the Logos server's version 4 access to get files, in this case at least had the same file but the timestamp had been updated. IMHO I think that will cause some confusion. Who knows if we are missing files and don't know it!
IMHO the whole Scan, Update, file versions, lbxlls vs. logos 4 versions needs an audit and tuning. All this needs is accurate and consistent files that are properly updated and the system would really be nice.
I write all this to let everyone know what to look for on their system, and to document the issue for Logos so they can improve it. Hope this helps!

I don't think "update resources" is the proper command for what you were trying to do. It would only apply to resources that have been updated on the Logos server and some of the Galaxie resources have not made it yet to the Logos server. I have only needed to type "Scan Now" into the command bar without the file path, then close Logos 4, I then restart Logos 4 and it has always pulled over any new files from Logos 3. I loaded TLJ 12 into L3 using the above method and it worked as expected, and then I went to Galaxie's FTP site and downloaded the updated ATJ & RAR Journals into L3 and again using the above method pulled them into L4.
It doesn't appear that you used it, but be careful using the Logos 3 book count in its bibliography utility, Bradley has told us Logos 4 counts certain books or resources differently than Logos 3 did, so the resource counts will not be the same. In your case with the Galaxie resources I would agree the file count of added journals should be the same.

Bobby's point is quite relevant - how did you get the TJL12 resources into L4 or were they indeed available via the L4 download?

Did the 40 not present include TJL resources?
PS. If you got the Pro version it has the ability to compare L3 and L4 resources of the same filename by simply stating *.lbxlls=*.logos4

That is unusual.

Did you compare their internal Logos versions or their file's Date modified? The internal version (also a timestamp) is the only reliable indicator even if the files are the same size --> open the resource in L4 and look at the bottom of its Resource Information page. In L3 look in Help | About this Resource for the Version.

----> I will do that next time. I did do a binary compare an they were the same. I suspect the internal version will prove to be the same. Hopefully that is what Logos' update software uses to verify...0 -

In Pro look for a tab titled "misc" (it appears with "Specs", "Comparison", "Handling"...) and input the two terms into a new "alignment override".

The date modified depends on the utility used to download the files, so you can't trust it (at best it is within a day or so of the Logos version, at worst it is the date of the download!). The internal version is used by Logos' software.
