Saving the Current Layout through the keyboard.

How can I tell when the current layout has been saved?
I would like to use the ctrl-alt-cmd-L shortcut ... but I cannot see any indication that it has worked.
The only thing that I can think of doing is looking at the Layouts menu (which both defeats the purpose and is embarrassingly slow (just like the library menu)).
When I do look at the menu ... the last saved layout is when I closed the app 4 hours ago ... does this means that the shortcut is not working? or does the layout list not update when the shortcut is used?
As an aside, is there a way of getting the 'save current layout' into the buttons at the top? I cannot seem to drag it from the display menu ... is the a 'command' that I can type and drag?
Thanks.

Sorry you are having a problem Martin. I don't know if my post will help but have you tried to see if all your keyboard keys work properly?
When I saved mine with the keyboard shortcut it works fine. If I want to double check then I check under the layout setting...I hope it gets sorted for you.

I'm not a MAC user so … I can save my layout using <alt-a>, down arrow, <enter> The down arrow locates it on "NOW Save as named layout"

That does work, but there is not indication that it has updated without looking at the layout thumbnails. Unless, of course, you want to select the layout and see what comes up [^o)], I have never had it not work—at least, I have never seen evidence that it did not work correctly.
